The Project welcomes transgender guest co-host

"I'm me. I'm my real me and I'm loving it," Andrew Guy, formerly Anna, tells The Project.

The Project last night welcomed its first viewer co-host for the week in the form of Andrew Guy, who shared his story about gender reassignment.

Andrew, born Anna, has been post-operative transgender for 5 years now, explaining that he had wanted to become male since he was a young child.

“I’m me. I’m my real me and I’m loving it. Life’s good,” he said.

Acknowledging the visibility by profile transgenders such as Caitlyn Jenner, he said:

“We have a lot of young kids coming through and it’s important that we recognise and honour them.

“Parents out there who are supporting their kids, that’s just spot on. You have to, otherwise there will be issues later on in life that you’ll have to deal with, that I had to go through.”

He also congratulated the show on being the first to include a transgender co-host.

“You’re the first show in the country to do it. So you’ve just broken a new paradigm.”

  1. Carlotta has been a TV personality since the 70s or 80s – used to be a regular on Beauty and the Beast if I remember rightly. So TG isn’t exactly a new thing on Australian TV.

    1. It may not be the highest rating show every night but it does a great job in the demos, often topping them, which is what Channel ten and advertisers would be happy with. Agreed though, that it really is a quality show and one of the few shows left on free to air that I try to watch everyday.

      1. Strictly speaking it probably wouldn’t be TV’s first transgender host, given community TV has been around for years. But it was good for FTA to go there.

Unfortunately I’ve reached out to the show recently for visit / interview but I am just being met with dead silence. Shame…
