UK actress Judy Carne, best known for Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In has died, aged 76.

She died on September 3rd.

Carne rose to fame as the “Sock it to me” girl on Laugh-In. She acted on the sketch comedy show for two years, making the occasional appearance in the third season.

She battled heavily with drug addiction after leaving Laugh-In, being charged with heroin possession and prescription forgery in the late ’70s. She was acquitted of the heroin charge.

Her first television appearance came in 1956, in The First Day of Spring, with other credits including Juke Box Jury, The Rag Trade, Fair Exchange, The Baileys of Balboa, Love on a Rooftop and The Man From U.N.C.L.E.

Carne was also known for her tumultuous relationship with Burt Reynolds, marrying him in 1963 before they divorced in 1965. In 1985 she published an autobiography in which she told of her volatile relationship with Reynolds, confessed to a string of affairs with members of both sexes and chronicled her battles with drug addiction.

Judy Carne herself once observed: “I’m a 1960s flowerchild who has refused to grow up. Mature and responsible are words I don’t understand.”
