Ratings: AFL Grand Final pulls the biggest audience of the year, but Nine and Seven tied in key demos.

Seven has taken another ratings week.

The AFL Grand Final drew the biggest TV ratings of the year at 2.64m viewers -of course the daytime event did not factor into any primetime share.

But there were ties in key demos between Seven and Nine.

ABC and TEN shows both pulled their best numbers mid-week.

NITV also drew a 1.0% share on Friday thanks to the Marngrook Footy Show final -ten times better than the usual 0.1%.

Seven: AFL Grand Final (2.64m), Seven News (Sat: 1.37m), 800 Words (1.16m) and The X Factor (1.09m).

Nine: The Block (Sun: 1.05m), Nine News (Sun: 1.04m), The Footy Show (946,000) and A Current Affair (873,000).

ABC: Gruen (941,000), ABC News (Sat: 938,000), New Tricks (882,000) and Utopia (842,000).

TEN: The Bachelorette (Wed: 992,000), The Project (7pm: 602,000), TBL Families (Tues: 567,000) and Gogglebox (553,000).

SBS: Great Continental Railway Journeys (373,000), Ultimate Tutankhamun (363,000), Who Do You Think You Are? (325,000) and Cats Uncovered (308,000).

While Nine won 16-39, it tied with Nine on both 18-49 and 25-54 demos.

Seven won Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. Nine won Thursday and Friday.

Seven was victorious in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth, while Nine retained Sydney and Brisbane.

  1. The ACCC can you these figures to see that there is no concern in a TEN Foxtel merger. It seems very obvious that it has been a two horse race in the ratings for quite a substantial time. Bring on some competition we really need it.
