Disappointing news for fans of TEN drama Wonderland today, with confirmation the show is not returning.

The FremantleMedia drama, which had two seasons across 2013 – 2015, starred Brooke Satchwell, Michael Dorman, Jessica Tovey and Ben Mingay.

In today’s Results Presentation, the show was not included as returning in 2016.

A TEN spokesperson told TV Tonight, “Wonderland was generally well received and we were happy with the production, but we just failed to find a sufficient audience.

“Long-form series are now without doubt the hardest to launch successfully.”

Most of the 2015 episodes were under the 500,000 audience mark in Overnight metro numbers.

In recent weeks TEN has announced the return of Offspring for 2016, with the telemovie Mary: The Making of a Princess due in coming weeks.

The Brock miniseries will also air in 2016, while Neighbours continues on ELEVEN.

2016 returning shows also include MasterChef, I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, Gogglebox, SharkTank, The Great Australian Spelling Bee, Have You Been Paying Attention?, The Project, The Living Room, Studio 10, The Bachelor, The Bachelorette, Family Feud, Bondi Rescue, Big Bash League, Formula 1, V8 Supercars, Rugby Union, Modern Family, NCIS, Law and Order: SVU, Limitless, Scorpion, NCIS: New Orleans, Madam Secretary, The Good Wife, The Graham Norton Show and CSI Cyber.

TEN’s 2016 Upfronts take place in late November.

  1. I did actually enjoy Wonderland I think the story writing went down the wrong direction to loose it’s audience, I think it had a great cast shame to see it go….

  2. That’s disappointing. I really liked Wonderland. I really hope Puberty Blues is coming back. And I really hope The Biggest Loser is coming back in 2016 too.

  3. There is a drama development 101 lesson in that photograph – which is don’t take 4 very similar women and 4 very similar men and put them together in an apartment building and see if you can confect a compelling drama. Fremantlemedia may not get another opportunity like it again now the Foxtel/Ten/Shine interests are aligned. EG – a two season re-order of Offspring despite not being able to access the producer offset.

  4. Really disappointed to hear this. I know I am probably in the minority but I really liked this show & don’t think it got the credit it deserved. I did suspect it when Ben Mingay turned up in Home & Away.

  5. Not surprised but still a bit devastated about this one. I was genuinely invested in all of the characters and their stories, which doesn’t happen very often. Will miss it.

  6. Wonderland was seriously a bad show. It was supposed to be about 20 somethings but all the topics came straight from Alan Jones radio show. (one show was about how bicycles sucked and all bike riders are psychos). How it got beyond series one is more of a wonder than the title of the show.

  7. Surprised it lasted as long as it did. Ten usually do drama well but Wonderland was certainly the exception to that rule. Would love another season of Puberty Blues but unfortunately I can’t see that happening.

    1. With Party Tricks flopping, Batavia falling through, Offspring’s stars unavailable, PB finished and little cash Ten made Wonderland to meet local content and drama quotas as cheaply as possible. It was rating around 350k for much of its run.

They wrapped things up at the end of the last season. Sarcastic comments by Brooke Satchwell on Dirty Laundry Live about what a joy it was be involved with, and how sad she was to no-longer be contracted to the show indicated there were no plans for any more.

    2. Agree.
Expected Wonderland to be canned after Season 1. Sounded promising but a huge disappointment – so poor that I stopped watching after the first couple of episodes.
Yes, sadly I don’t think we will see PB back again.

  8. Now that the network has stabiliszed and is gettin better TEN should bring back SportsTonight. they probably wont but they should and put it on ONE after the news on TEN.at least on the weekends like it started years ago. As for Wonderland well it was an OK show but they couldnt pull it of.

    1. I also want to see Sports Tonight back as well. Surely they could bring it back, as they have got plenty of presenters to do it now with Brad McEwan, Mel McLaughlin, Mark Howard, Scott Mackinnon, Matt Burke, Adam Hawse and Matt White. I feel it should go at 7.30pm with a late night edition at 10.30

      1. I started to worry that Blue Bloods & Hawaii Five O wasn’t mentioned either but then I realized 2016 upfronts are in late november so there is still hope.
