Eleventh hour reprieve for IceTV guide

IceTV finds a way to keep its subscriber EPG alive, avoiding its service going dark.

Good news for IceTV subscribers with word that the EPG guide will live on, after an 11th-hour deal was salvaged by co-founder and executive chairman Colin O’Brien.

The TV Guide will be available only as a monthly subscription for $7.99 each month, and support up to 5 recording devices. Existing subscriptions from the old IceTV company will expire soon.

But there will be no more Skippa recorders produced until at least next year if the company can strike a deal with a manufacturer. Current Skippa owners will need to have a monthly TV guide subscription.

“I have worked my butt off to get things going again before the EPG went dark on Monday,” O’Brien told Fairfax.

“The service is back up for good, I will support it to the best of my ability. I’m an investor in IceTV and I’m risking more of my money to keep the guide running. The support of my key staff has been absolutely humbling.”

The reprieve follows the company entering voluntary administration last week, after the manufacturing deal for its Skippa personal video recorder went sour and its forum staff telling subscribers the company was folding.

  1. Too expensive for me I was previously paying $4 a month. I’m very disappointed at its demise as I was a long time subscriber and fan however loosing the rest of my paid subscription has left a bad taste RIP icetv 🙁

  2. Good news for the staff but a sting in the tail for existing customers and suppliers. Looks like the “kitchen renovation store” technique, the shop goes bust and closes it’s doors on friday but reopens on monday with a new name, the same staff, the same stock and higher prices.

  3. What is the significance of the asterisk next to the word soon ? No subtext at bottom of article

I have been advised that 18 months into my 5 year subscription – my money is gone

I seriously doubt I can give more money to a service to get what I should be getting already
