Fans reeling from Walking Dead episode

Warning: This episode contains references to Monday’s episode of The Walking Dead.

You always know characters are going to expire on FX drama The Walking Dead, and it’s not the first time a fan favourite has met their demise…

But Monday’s episode in which Glenn (Steven Yeun) appeared to be chomped to death has resulted in a statement from the show.

Showrunner Scott M. Gimple told companion show Talking Dead, “Dear fans of The Walking Dead, this is a hard story to tell and when we were planning to tell we knew our friends at the Talking Dead would be talking to you about it and knowing you’d all be talking, and feeling and commiserating, I knew we should say something about it lest our silence say something we didn’t mean to say or not say,” Gimple said in a statement.

“So I’ll say this: In some way, we will see Glenn, some version of Glenn or parts of Glenn again, either in flashback or in the current story to help complete the story.”

  1. I too wondered if it was Nicholas’ innards we were seeing… time will tell. Regardless I haven’t enjoyed the story premise this season. It always seemed far to risky to try and move the herd rather than just burn them in the pit, which makes me think it was done purely to ‘remove’ a number of characters.

Glen has come so far and proved so much, if he is dead he will be truly missed. I’d rather Rick died than Glen, why, well besides how much I love Glen, Rick as important as he is isn’t the Rick I got to know and love. Even his voice seems to have become something else. It’s a great show, which really makes you think, but the story to me has lost it’s way somewhat and if Rick is the ‘leader’, then maybe we need a change in leadership to get a change in story direction. Just a thought…

  2. My comment to my partner (after the sobs subsided ;)) was that they would never kill off a main character without someone significant witnessing it. It would not be dramatic enough that Glen just never came back and the group were left wondering with no resolution. Also I believe he’ll crawl under the dumpster which may have rusted out over the years (just wishful thinking on my part!?)

  3. I’m pretty sure he is still alive when Nicholas fell Glenn landed underneath him and the guts being ripped out was probably Nicholas’. Glenn will probably crawl under the dumpster and will be rescued by Michonne, Scott and Heath. Even though I like Glenn I really hope he does die because it would be more realistic but I doubt he would die in a third episode it will probably be in a finale.

    • I was reading that on the forums last night, it hadn’t occurred to me. But I rewatched it a few times and paused it and it does look like they are tearing Nicholas apart, not Glenn. The body that’s being eaten looks kind of ‘raised’ and his intensines (if Glenn’s) are too high. I also noticed they were both in grey tshirts so that gives more reason to think it was a fake out. As much as I want Glenn to be alive, I agree with you, it is way too unrealistic. To survive that (as well as the forest zombie) pretty much puts Glenn in the ‘superhero’ category.

    • Yeah, it felt like such an uncharacteristic unceremonious way for a major character to go out… And surely if it was for real, they would at least leave it to the end of the episode and leave us on it, not 3/4 the way through an episode… I mean there was still 15 minutes left after it happened!

      • I know! That’s what I was thinking. And also how he didn’t die as soon as all that blood started spurting everywhere, there’s no way someone would survive longer than a couple of seconds with that kind of blood loss.

        • And the pain. He would have blacked out in seconds.

But if he is playing possum under Neville, why is he writing around in pain and trying to get bit?

Doesn’t make sense anyway. And I’m getting sick of producer lying and manipulating fans on social media, rather than just writing good drama in the first place.
