Eliminated X Factor contestant Jimmy Davis has been criticised by judge Guy Sebastian, after he was quoted as saying “If I was to say Chris (Isaak) had an input in what songs I had to sing, I’d be lying.”

Sebastian exchanged tweets saying, “How incredibly disappointing. After all the time and love people invested in you. Having humility and gratitude is invaluable.

“We don’t choose the songs? Sometimes producers make lists as suggestions but 90% of the time I don’t even loo at them. I spend hours scouring the net for songs and I take pride in our arrangements. To undermine ppl who fought for him & only want to help is a huge slap in the face. Ironically, the week he chose the song & arrangement was the week he got the lowest votes.

“Happy to get the exposure, get flown around the world, mentored etc only to turn around and make completely false statements.

“Struggled singing covers? It’s the XFactor 4 heavens sake If u r a prolific smash hit writer, u wouldn’t have asked for help, which was given to you with love and patience and definitely without anyone holding a gun to your head. I’m passionate about it because I understand the importance of treating people kindly, having respect and being grateful.”

Jimmy Davis had earlier tweeted “I feel it goes without saying. I really enjoyed my time on the show.”

This morning he posted on Facebook:

(Last long post for a while)
To my supporters, my family and my extended X Factor family, I would like to take this opportunity to respond to a recent media article. I forget the weight of my words and how they can affect and sometimes even hurt those I care most about.

As you may be aware, I have a somewhat independent personality. I’ve always been one to speak my mind and this can be confronting at times. The most recent media article is a perfect example of this. From what I believed started as a very casual conversation with a laid back journalist became a tainted farewell and left a bitter taste in my mouth.

Some things were taken out of context and people who I respect have been hurt; and most importantly, it has given off the impression that I am not grateful for all the opportunities that X Factor has given to me. The show has been an absolutely life changing experience for me. I have learned so much in the past few months, not only about my chosen craft but also about myself as a person.

I have been very lucky to have made great friends whilst on the show. To my fellow contestants, some of the most talented individuals I have had the pleasure to meet, you guys sung your hearts out every week and I am truly going to miss you.

To all the staff working behind the scenes, you guys bring this show to life.

To the producers, who make all this craziness somehow work (In particular Digby and Gemma) you have had to put up with me on my hardest days and I thank you for everything you have done.

All of you have made this time unforgettable.

Before I finish, I would like to say to my mentor and my friend Mr Chris Isaak, working with you has been one of the most inspiring and exhilarating experiences of my entire life. All the stories you have shared, the advice you have given me and the down to earth way you see the world has resonated with me. It has been an absolute pleasure working with you and will always be a highlight of my life.
Lots of Love,
Jimmy Davis

Guy Sebastian and The X Factor are yet to comment on his finalist act Bianca & Johanna being erased from the show.

  1. Lets see, hmmm sagging ratings…. damn it, what do we do?? Get rid of the host?? no no we were hinting that last year, but he’s still around…. hmmmmm

Yes Publicity stunt, get us in the media and people talking about us, will make more people watch

    😉

  2. Its a mickey mouse talent show, to even call it a talent show is a false hood. Its a tv show where people who clearly can’t sing get told by judges (?) that they can. The contestants get their 15 min of fame and are never heard from again. These show are really scrapping the bottom of the entertainment barrel.

          1. I’ll go there! Greyghost – here are the facts on the two former talent show contestants that you begrudgingly conceded might have had some success as a result of their appearance on the show:

Guy Sebastian – Eight Top 10 albums (including two #1s) + 1 Top 12 album; 21 Top 40 singles (including six #1s and 12 Top 10 singles in total).

Shannon Noll – Five Top 10 albums (including two #1s); 11 Top 40 singles (including three #1s, another two #2s and 10 Top 10 singles all up).

Just two Idol graduates have been responsible for nine #1 singles, 11 Top 2 singles, 22 Top 10 singles and 32 Top 40 singles in total.

Admittedly, it’s been several years since Shannon had a hit, but to suggest that his entire career suggested of “a hit with an old song is, as David said, “so wrong” that it’s laughable…

      1. My humble opinion, Karise Eden is a star. Has charted with several singles and two albums so far. Has an amazing voice and story. Time will tell on all of them whether they endure, but hers is a special and distinctive voice.

        1. agree with you there, she has a phenomenal voice. But the problem is, there are not enough genuine talents being discovered by these shows like in the old days of AI etc. I cannot fathom how Jimmy is out of the X-Factor based on his singing ability, i guess he just didn’t have enough sex appeal to the tweenie girls watching.

  3. He’s young and inexperienced and has a few things to learn about the way these things operate, but I think Guy Sebastian was a bit too harsh in tearing him apart like he did.

    1. I’m just giving an educated guess, but i think they get a batch of songs from producers that have been cleared for performance copyright from record labels and from that batch the mentors choose a song for their contestant. I don’t know how expansive that list is. It’s not open slather nor is it no choice; somewhere in between,

  4. Sounds like a bad loser to me. He goes on a talent show and when he loses he decides to bag the show a bit (Sunrise yesterday). He could of walked out anytime but chose to stay and milk a huge opportunity to showcase his talents to a massive audience. You cannot buy this exposure. Lets not forget that a TV show is basically a business that has to make money and the produces do it the best way they can to gain a big audience. If you don’t like it go and do the hard yards in pubs and clubs and sing your own songs. I do think this guy has a good future though.

  5. Damage control; thoughtful, eloquent but still damage control. Good for him though to use social media in such a circumspect way. Guy is pretty spot on though. It’s a tv show and audiences won’t be interested in rare or obscure songs performed; at least not in the main. An occasional obscurity brings a point of difference, but the show has to tread carefully that line which can lead to criticism of it being a karaoke contest if the songs and arrangements are too faithful. Hard to get the balance right. Contestants know it is their best platform for pretty much instant fame. They can’t really bellyache later that it took away their individuality. It’s a pop star competition.

    1. I totally agree with Jason. There are never off the record chats with journos and whilst they may not print exactly what is said, they certainly can edit to put their own spin on it.

Jimmy has much to learn about the mechanisms of commercial music and how it works, and yes, it will now be interesting to see if his ‘individuality’ can deliver him a career. I think he’s got talent, but watching what you say in public is his first entree into ‘real world’ commercial music industry!

  6. Maybe benefit of doubt should be given to both Jimmy and that so called journalist but could this be yet another example of words taken out of context (or manipulated) by a journalist? We’ve heard it so many times that words taken out of context, etc.
Jimmy should have said these words of gratitude on stage but still never too late I suppose.

      1. The farewell speech was weird and it didn’t paint Jimmy in a very good light – I was watching it and thinking “wow, you aren’t going to thank anyone?”
