Sydney production training body Metro Screen is calling on past participants and friends to gather for its farewell party as it ends its 34 year run, following a loss of funding.

It will also launch the findings of  Emerging Visions, a research commissioned by Metro Screen about the state of play for emerging screen practitioners.

“The raw materials of the screen industry are its people – their creativity, their skills, their resourcefulness – and unlocking the potential of new talent is an industry-wide responsibility,” said Christina Alvarez, Metro Screen CEO.

“I worry about the decisions that are being made regarding the emerging sector without an overall industry strategy around talent renewal. The impact on the diversity of our screen culture may not be felt for another ten years but the breadth of a generation of Australian storytellers may be lost,” added
Kath Shelper, Metro Screen President.

This ground-breaking research, conducted over a 6 month period, is based on a literature review, secondary data, employer interviews and interviews with screen practitioners from a mix of experience across production roles, both above and below the line.

Emerging Visions aims to inform an appropriate industry response to the changing landscape in which emerging screen practitioners must compete for jobs and other opportunities.

What will the screen industry look like in 5 to 10 years without a clear strategy and policies around talent regeneration? Who will be our future leaders?

Join us to discuss our research, reflect on our achievements and then, at our Breakup Party, celebrate over 34 years of support for new voices and diverse storytelling.

Vale Metro Screen is an opportunity to bring our screen family together one last time.

6 – 10pm Wednesday 11 November, Chauvel Cinema Paddington.
