Seven has a new food competition series, Aussie BBQ Heroes, coming over summer.

News Corp reports the series will feature Surfing The Menu’s Ben O’Donoghue as host and judge plus ex-My Kitchen Rules contestant, US-born Robert Murphy and US-based Australian Barbecue Alliance co-founder Jess Pryles as judges.

Nine teams will compete for more than $100,000 in prize money.

It isn’t clear if any of the show is brand-funded. O’Donoghue (pictured) has hosted Drive Thru Australia with Ben O’Donoghue, sponsored by Heat Beads BBQ Briquettes on Seven network.

With My Kitchen Rules expected in February, there won’t be much break -aside from now- from food competitions on Free to Air TV.

Meanwhile the newspaper also speculates TEN may revive Junior MasterChef for 2016.

  1. For entertaining but obviously inexpensively made BBQ TV fun, I like BBQ Pitmasters. Think I may give Seven’s show a miss. Would also love to see Junior Masterchef back.

  2. I’ve seen some American bbq shows on US Netflix but they involve smokers, rotisseries and 24 hour slow cooking.
The food all looked amazing but I wonder what an Aussie version would be like.

        1. Usually where a company funds a show in order to further their product or service, carefully embedded into a lifestyle or reality show for example. It’s one step up from product placement because it means they are influencing the editorial. So it may be a reality show or a travel doco but the whole agenda is advertising. Recent examples McDonalds Gets Grilled, and others on cruise lines, Telstra, Target fashion. Even Its A Knockout revival was paid by McDonalds.

          1. Aghhh so generally a sole sponsor funding a program. So confusing advertorial v brand funded v sponsored!

  3. Yes it would be great to see junior masterchef back they said on the masterchef Facebook page that big announcements are coming soon ao lets hope the return of junior master chef is one of them

  4. I’d love to see Junior Masterchef back! It would really appeal to that family demographic that warms to Masterchef, and after the end of Spelling Bee I’m missing cute kids on my TV screen!
