SKY News has appointed Dan Bourchier as Political Reporter and National Indigenous Affairs Correspondent.

To be based in Canberra, Bourchier has been with SKY since 2012 where he has held the position of Darwin Reporter and later NT Bureau Chief and National Indigenous Affairs Correspondent. He will now expand in his role, covering Indigenous issues and events nationally.

Prior to joining SKY News he held positions with National Indigenous Television (NITV) in both Sydney and Canberra and the NT News. His coverage of the NT Leadership Spill of 2013 was awarded Scoop of the Year at the NT Media Awards.

SKY News Political Editor David Speers said: “I’ve worked with Dan over many years at SKY News where he has proven himself not only a political news breaker in Darwin but an insightful National Indigenous Affairs Correspondent. Dan will add a great deal to our team in Canberra, bringing viewers a fresh perspective on what’s happening in national affairs.”

Bourchier said: “I’m thrilled to be joining the SKY News Canberra team and look forward to working with both David Speers and Kieran Gilbert whom I respect greatly. This is an exciting opportunity that will build on my experience in Darwin, Northern Australia and Indonesia and will place me at the forefront of unfolding news.

“I look forward to continuing to cover decisions and policy affecting First Australians, telling a story on the national stage that no one covers quite like SKY News. This opportunity fulfils an ambition I had growing up in the dusty red bush of Tennant Creek in the Territory outback, to tell the stories shaping Australia, from the spiritual heart of the nation, Uluru, to the halls of power in Canberra.”

SKY has not announced his replacement for the Northern Territory.
