Oisin Tymon, who was attacked by former Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson, earlier this year is suing both he and the BBC for racial discrimination.

Clarkson reportedly called his colleague a “lazy, Irish c***” during the confrontation.

According to UK reports Tymon had to drive himself to hospital when he was left with swelling and a split lip but told police at the time that he did not want to press charges.

The incident at a hotel in March led to Clarkson’s contract not being renewed. Co-presenters Richard Hammond and James May left the BBC and the trio are currently filming a new show for streaming service, Amazon.

A statement from the BBC said: “We will be responding to this claim but will not be commenting further at this time.”

    1. Oisin is a traditional gaelic name. It’s not surprising that someone who is Irish has an ancient Irish name. It’s that sort of casual racism that he’s already been the victim of once without you chipping your two cents in.

    1. Just a thought, but maybe he’s not objecting to the word “Irish” so much as the surrounding words “lazy” and “c***”?

Also worth spending a little time thinking about the difference between “racial discrimination” (which is the claim) and being “racist” (which is not).

    2. I think you’ll find it’s the punch in the face that was the part that’s being objected to. The issue is was the descrimination (the verbal abuse and violence) motivated or in any way related to his race.
It’s not racist to say someone is Irish but to call them “a lazy Irish ***” is I would say clearly racial descrimintation. Perhaps you’re not aware of history of discrimination against the Irish in Britain. Replace Irish with any other race and see if it seems okay to you.
In the UK the law determines race to include colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin. So there’s no need to argue if being Irish is a seperate race or not. Although there is strong DNA evidence to suggest that the Irish are indeed a seperate race.

  1. Must be one hell of a line up of people ready to sue Clarkson if this goes through. Not to mention anyone who has every said anything in the heat of the moment that someone might find offensive.

He’s probably pissed because Clarkson leaving meant the end of the show and his job on it.

    1. Let’s not forget Clarkson also punched this guy. If I was hit by a colleague in a workplace incident then I’d also be considering legal action against the colleague and my employer if compo wasn’t forthcoming.
