John Cleese is adapting a stage version of Fawlty Tours to tour Australia and New Zealand.

John Cleese’s Fawlty Towers: Live on Stage will have its world premiere in Sydney in August, with Cleese to oversee casting in February.

“There have been many requests in the past 40 years to adapt Fawlty Towers for the stage. I now sense the time is right and I’d like my Aussie actor friends to be my collaborators on the world premiere of this epoch-shattering event, a watershed in the history of Australian theatrical culture. Or not,” said Cleese.

Fawlty Towers was first broadcast in 1975 and ran for 12 episodes.

Michael Coppel and Philip McIntyre in association with Louise Withers will produce.

  1. Yes, poor old John hasn’t had much luck with women. I well remember attending one of his “Alimony Tour” shows in 2012 at Melbourne’s Comedy Theatre. Still, the Fawlty Towers Live show could be interesting, as long as the casting is appropriate.
