2015-11-04_2025

Egyptian satirist Bassem Youssef is a guest tonight on the The Chaser’s Media Circus.

Dubbed “the Jon Stewart of the Arab World”, Bassem Youssef is the former cardiothoracic surgeon who created and hosted Al Bernameg, which won national and international acclaim for its hilarious and bold criticism of Egypt’s ruling elites. Al Bernameg began as a five minute YouTube show during the Arab Spring, and quickly became the most watched show across the Middle East, with over 30 million viewers a week. In 2014 Youssef announced the termination of Al Bernameg. Bassem Youssef and his family now live outside Egypt due to concerns for their own safety.

Also joining host Craig Reucassel and fact-checker Chas Licciardello this week are

  • The Chaser’s Andrew Hansen,
  • former ABC foreign correspondent and current ABC Regional & Rural Affairs reporter Sally Sara,
  • comedian Tom Ballard
  • and regular Media Circus players Ben Jenkins and Zoë Norton Lodge.

Thursday 5 November at 8pm on ABC.
