Nine’s new lifestyle channel Life and SBS channel Food Network will be added to OzTAM ratings from November 29.

A spokesperson confirmed to TV Tonight OzTAM has four or five dates a year when channels can be introduced, deleted or change names.

The next date is on 29th November, 3 days after Nine switches to HD for its primary channel and launches multichannel Life. Food Network on SBS launches on Tuesday November 17th.

Nine will have four channels, one extra to those of Seven and TEN. Whether that gives it a competitive ratings edge isn’t clear.

Nine’s Andrew Backwell recently said, “It’s how you divide the spectrum. So you can have one HD channel and break up your channels into standard definition and datacasting. So it’s not a question of how many channels you can have but how you fit them into your digital spectrum.

“We’ve re-adjusted our spectrum so by making Nine HD, GEM goes back to Standard Definition.”

Meanwhile OzTAM’s new video player measurement report will launch in the next few weeks.

  1. Any “ratings edge” Nine might have had by having an extra channel will be completely wiped out if they go ahead and switch the main channel to MPEG-4. I’ve tried every TV in the house and not one of them can pick up Channel 68, the only channel currently broadcasting in MPEG-4. Surely Nine will be cutting their own throat if they switch to MPEG-4 and thousands of people can no longer receive their signal. They’ll be surrendering the ratings to Seven and TEN. Let’s hope WIN will not be following Nine down this suicide road.

          1. It’s on mine strange… And now the other add ons beIN Cbeebies H&C are back, fetch has had an update I was told to switch off and on, do a rescan

  2. I have several TV’s and generally speaking l don’t see that much difference in clarity in picture. In huge screen TV’s you can see a difference.

    1. That’s because most of the content that is currently broadcast on the commercial HD channels is actually SD. You could watch it on an 8K TV and it’d still look the same.

  3. I feel it is quality over quantity. It is hard enough to fill the schedule of one additional channel without resorting to repeats and now Nine is adding another channel.

Re-adjusted what!! its no different to what you had before one HD channel!! so to me it’s a Name change

I think you mean Seven and Ten

    1. Not that I’m interested in racing but I have noticed for some reason that the racing.com channel doesn’t appear on the fetch box but does appear on others.
