Nope, David Hasselhoff is not ‘David Hoff.’

Media get fooled by an ad campaign featuring "David Hoff."

Some big boy media might have you believe David Hasselhoff has changed his name to David Hoff.

But wait there’s more…

“I’ve been wanting to drop the Hassel from my life for years. Now I have made it official,” he said in a video announcement.

On Twitter, the 63-year-old wrote, “Big news today and a massive relief for me. I hope everyone can understand… it feels great!”

A few hours after the video went up, a representative for Hasselhoff told Page Six, “It’s an excerpt from an ad campaign that launches in Australia this weekend. David is just having some fun and more will be revealed in the next 24 hours.”

  1. It has certainly sucked in a few big names in the media. That tired old shock jock Chris Smith on 2GB has breathlessly told his listeners that the Hoff has changed his name, and I’ve heard that the Daily Telegraph even published a story announcing it before taking it down an hour or so later when they realised it was a hoax. Everybody would have known it was a hoax and a publicity stunt anyway. David Hasselhoff is one of the most recognised and high profile brands in the world and doing anything to jeopardise that would be total madness.
