US drama Major Crimes has been renewed for a fifth season.

Executive producer/series creator James Duff and members of the Major Crimes cast broke the news via social media, “#MajorCrimes just got our season 5 pick up!!!”

A spin-off of The Closer, the series follows the further investigations of the detectives in the Los Angeles Police Department’s Major Crimes division, led by Mary McDonnell.

The news comes despite being down by nearly 26% in 18-49 US demo, but it remains one of TNT’s highest-rated scripted series.

Season 3 airs in Australia Wednesday nights on GEM.

  1. If only Nine will air them not long after they are aired in USA. Rediculous we have to wait here in Australia. No wonder people turn to illegal downloading.

  2. It’s turning into a soapie with the Rusty Beck plotline and the romance between Flynn and Raydor. Without Provenza’s non-PC attitude, his almost white Giggle hat from M*A*S*H and his “I don’t…” sayings, I’d give the show a miss.

  3. Jumping for joy! Been waiting, and checking all appropriate website for this news for months.
Thanks for breaking this to me, David.
It’s lost viewers in the states, yes, but so has Rizzoli and Isles, even more so.
It’s a slow burner for fans of The Closer, and maybe doesn’t have the same humour, but still an excellent procedural with a very talented array of cast and writers.
