X Factor tops with Total People as rivals rule in Demos

Ratings: It was the only entertainment show above 1m viewers, but what's the deal with Demos this year?

The X Factor was the only entertainment show over the magic million last night at 1.01m viewers -yet it continues to be beaten in the Demos.

Both The Block and Have You Been Paying Attention? scored better with younger viewers, and even TBL Families pipped it in 16-39 year olds, by just 1,000 viewers.

Nine’s night began to dip from 8:40pm, including when it was beaten by Big Bang repeats on Seven. Ouch.

ABC’s Australian Story did well at 807,000 viewers.

Seven network won with 28.6% then Nine 26.8%, ABC 19.5%, TEN 19.0% and SBS 5.9%.

Seven News (1.02m / 997,000) topped the night for Seven then The X Factor (1.01m), Home and Away (777,000), The Chase (631,000 / 403,000) and Big Bang (561,000 / 420,000 / 373,000). Grey’s Anatomy was 171,000.

Nine News (983,000 / 936,000) led for Nine then A Current Affair and The Block (both 962,000), Hot Seat (545,000) and Married at First Sight UK (512,000). CSI was 312,000 / 214,000.

Australian Story (807,000) was best for ABC followed by 7:30 (783,000), ABC News (765,000), Four Corners (696,000), Media Watch (627,000) and Q & A (545,000).

Have You Been Paying Attention? topped TEN’s night at 661,000. TBL Families was 589,000, The Project was 575,000 / 421,000, TEN Eyewitness News was 517,000. Homeland was 206,000.

On SBS it was Dogs: Their Secret Lives (266,000), Worst Place to be a Pilot (190,000), Rise of the Machines (144,000) and SBS World News (131,000).

ABC2s Charlie and Lola led multichannels at 241,000.

  1. In light of recent Greys numbers, I know US shows are not rating as well, keen viewers may source elsewhere, but the late night and previously poor programming of double eps has shattered viewers, I haven’t started watching this season, but I find it is as entertaining now as ever, if not even better!?

    1. I’m enjoying the new season of greys so far but yet to watch last nights ep because it was on far too late last night. I agree with you though 7s poor scheduling of the show has ruined greys in Australia. I mentioned this in the tv lounge that even their plus 7 site has a cast picture from 2 seasons ago with characters no longer in the series and new regulars missing. I don’t think 7 even knows what they are airing.

      1. Lol @tvf!

I’m enjoying this season actually and despite McDreamy gone I’m enjoying the storyline. This is the longest show I have ever committed too (except H&A which I have only stopped watching this year) and am happy that it has kept me hooked despite the shocking time slot. Thank goodness for my PVR. I taped Mistresses season 2, HTGAWM and Greys. 7 doesn’t seem to like airing the shows I like at a reasonable hour.

        1. I too stopped watching h&a this year after watching it for years. Watched another good ep of greys yesterday. Really like how this season is progressing so far.

  2. I have a friend who works in marketing at Channel Ten, he told me that Ten are considering moving Family Feud to 7pm weeknights and moving the Project to 6pm given the Project’s ratings continue to collapse- he said in the past few months it is often 200k viewers each night behind Home and Away and 350k viewers behind ACA.

      1. They have not put Family Feud at 7pm yet, they are currently talking about the move. Over the past month The Project at 7pm has seen a big drop in its numbers, I think there are 3 reasons for this (1) The Big Bang Theory is taking some of The Project’s numbers over to 7Mate, (2) Home and Away viewers are probably over the farewell of the Brax Brothers, and (3) my friend at Ten tells me that when The Project was doing much better in its numbers it was actually the last 15minutes that is 715pm to 730pm which is probably attributed to people tuning in a bit early to get ready for Masterchef at 730pm.

          1. The project always always drops during daylight savings and this year it is no different.

          2. Of course he will, why would they sack him, it is not confidential information for a network to talk about moving and trying out different timeslots.

          3. oztvhistory, in today’s overly competitive market tv shows can not afford to drop during any season. I have never watched The Project so I have no bias for or against the show. I am simply sharing knowledge but I get the impression from one liner comments like this that people are having a go at for me contributing to the discussion forum, I would have thought people would want to know what is going on at the networks- instead the show lovers immediately get all defensive!
