Anticipated new fantasy series The Shannara Chronicles will premiere on Syfy in mid-January.

Based on the best-selling fantasy novels by Terry Brooks, the NZ filmed series stars Ivana Baquero, Manu Bennett, Austin Butler, Poppy Drayton, Emelia Burns, John Rhys-Davies and Daniel MacPherson.

Set thousands of years after the destruction of our civilization, the story follows an Elven Princess, Amberle, a half-human half-elf, Wil, and a human, Eretria, as they embark on a quest to stop a Demon army from destroying the Four Lands.

An Elvish tree, known as the Ellcrys, is dying. The bad news is that the tree has been the only piece of magic that protects the Four Lands from the Demon World. Amberle Elessedil is the only one who can save the tree. But she has to unlock magic that the Elves haven’t used in thousands of years. With the help of Wil Ohmsford, she travels to find the lost magic. But it won’t be an easy task.

7:30pm Saturday January 16 on Syfy.

  1. Having read the books up till now Brooks still has another one coming why did they start so late in the series, this series the Fiest Rift-war books and the Robin Hobb series of the Farseer books are to me entertaining and if they are running short of ideas could translate to TV fairly well.
Its Fantasy but what the hell

  2. About time Syfy started boosting it’s programming line up by purchasing series which are not related to their U.S. counterpart. Here’s hoping it rates well so they can see that spending money isn’t a bad thing. I for one will definitely be checking this out.
