Nine News to automate in Sydney, Melbourne.
More cameramen likely to feel the pinch as technology takes over their skill set.

Nine News is set to turn to automation in its Sydney and Melbourne studios by February 2016, no longer requiring on the floor crew.
While it is unclear how many staff will be impacted, the change is already in place at NWS Adelaide and follows from TEN, Seven and ABC having moved to automation.
On the floor at TCN there are cameramen who have been part of Nine for decades.
Recently Geoff Sparke, Director of Broadcast Operations advised staff via email, “Mosart is a studio automation system. It uses commands from ENPS to create studio events when triggered by the Mosart operator. The Mosart system controls the vision switcher, graphics, cameras, audio, lighting and video playback.”
Nine is understood to be looking into how it can reassign duties to those who might be affected.
“We view this system as an opportunity to increase productivity while continuing to position ourselves as industry leaders. For some, the platform will allow for training and the subsequent acquisition of new skills essential to global standard operations,” said Sparke.

As wooden as the mannequin that waved cars into Esso service stations in the 1960’s.
However still more believable than some presenters inflicted on us poor viewers in unusual timeslots (including before 9am weekdays…).
hope technology doesn’t get to a point where all studio camera people are replaced by robots. the art in television is slowly dying

It will be a great day when executives and programmer’s job are automated – the useless people – rather than the ones with the actual technical skills
I’m pretty sure that the programmer’s job has at least been partly automated at the commercial networks. They still need a human to pull the darts out of the board and reload them into the gun.
