US sitcom Mike & Molly is set to end with its sixth season, according to one of the cast members.

Rondi Reed, who plays Mike’s mother Margaret “Peggy” Biggs posted on Facebook: “Before you hear it elsewhere (and some already have) this is the final and sixth season of Mike & Molly on CBS.

“It is also a shortened season (13 episodes) after the announced full renewal of 22 episodes back in March by the network. We are done taping as of Jan. 27, 2016, and I am not sure exactly when/if the episodes will all be aired.

“The network has its reasons, and I will not get into a debate, discussion or campaign to get them to change their minds. Other venues were explored by WB and Bonanza Productions (Chuck Lorre) after CBS announced their intentions, but did not turn up a future for our show.

“It is a fact and we have known for a few weeks. I remain extremely grateful to have been a part of this and to have worked with a fabulous bunch of folks over the years. I have learned a lot about many things, including the business we call show. Also grateful for all the fans and for the personal support I have received over the (almost) six seasons. Stewart Talent has guided me every step of the way on this journey and for that I am also forever grateful.”

The series will return in the US for its sixth season on January 6th with 2 Broke Girls. Season six will mark the first time the series has received anything less than a 22-episode order.

CBS & Warner Bros. TV are yet to comment.

  1. Speaking of Two Broke Girls what the hell is 9 doing with it? They’ve aired 19 of the 24 Season 4 episodes and withheld the last 5 since September.

    Frustrating.

  2. I thought the show was rating well in the US, hate how they have treated it in the last few years, S5 was delayed until a new show failed so they bought it forward in their plans. BTW the 2 Broke Girls season has already started (also late) in the US with only 4 eps aired so far in their 5th season.

Only upside to this news is it now frees up Mellisa for the Gilmore Girls reunion, sets are already being rebuilt and filming is set to start sometime in the new year, no dates set as to when it will air.
