FOX has cast Straight Outta Compton actor Corey Hawkins for the lead role in 24: Legacy, the pilot reboot of 24.

Hawkins, who stars as Dr. Dre in the 2015 hip hop film, will play ‘Eric Carter’, the central character replacing Kiefer Sutherland’s ‘Jack Bauer.’

The new version is helmed by original 24 producers Howard Gordon, Manny Coto, Evan Katz and Brian Grazer, but opts for a new universe within CTU. 24: Legacy will revolve around a military hero’s return to the U.S. and the trouble that follows him back — compelling him to ask the CTU for help in saving his life, and stopping what potentially could be one of the largest-scale terror attacks on American soil.

Described as strong and smart, Eric came from a very rough background and turned his life around in the Army Rangers. Now back home in Virginia with his wife Nicole (yet to be cast), he’s pulled back into action as his past comes looking for him.

Variety notes Hawkins has been the star of choice for quite some time, but his deal just now closed.

Kiefer Sutherland is not expected to return.

So far only a pilot has been ordered, but the tip is a 13 part series.

  1. The plot is quite similar to the general theme of the 1st season with Jack B-having a completely new cast allows for twists and turns like the early stuff ie no one apart from ‘Jack’ is safe or whom they may appear to be-it might work again!

  2. Very much dislike this idea, surely they could’ve done a CTU spin-off something with fewer than 24 eps a season, because we’ve learnt 24 serialized eps is troublesome.
