The Big Bash League finished on Sunday, capping off a great run for TEN.

Sunday’s final helped the network to a 30.3% share, winning the night.

While the game drew 1.07m viewers on TEN, there were another 128,000 watching on ONE in Perth – up 21% on 2015.

Overall TEN’s games averaged 757,000 viewers, an increase of 25%. It was biggest summer audience for the primary channel since 2010-11 and the biggest for the network since 2004-05.

TEN Chief Executive Officer, Paul Anderson, said: “After three seasons on Network TEN, the KFC Big Bash League has become must-see television for many Australians during the summer months.

“We are extremely pleased with the strong growth in BBL’s television audience this year and the great feedback we’ve received from viewers around the country.

“Thank you to our viewers, commentators, hosts, partners, sponsors, all the BBL clubs and players, and the TEN Sport team led by David Barham. And a special thanks to Cricket Australia for creating and building such a popular and successful competition,” he said.

Cricket Australia Chief Executive Officer, James Sutherland, said: “We are absolutely delighted that the BBL has grown to become an established feature of the Australian summer.

“While it has been a record-breaking year for the BBL, we were just as pleased by the formation of the Women’s Big Bash League which has given the game an extra dimension, attracting ratings which are already the envy of many established men’s sports. This could not have been done without Network TEN’s fantastic support, which is helping create a really visible cricket pathway for girls and women.”

  1. Well this product is the “little red train who could” – a really pleasant surprise for summer. Ironically the over-hyped tennis is an absolute boat anchor for Seven – apart from the finals – it is disastrous for their news figures.

  2. With digital stations basIcally being on the same level Ten could move the BBL to One. Most of the population has HD receivers now. The finals showed thIs when Perth viewers switched to One.

  3. Ten did a great job. I would like to see the game expanded with more teams. Perhaps get a mixed genre round as well or get NZ teams involved. The 20 over is a crowd pleaser and l feel Ten has gotten on to a winner.

    1. Disagree. The format works so well because there is only 8 teams. If anything one of the Melbourne teams should be relocated to Geelong (as it should have been from the start) and one of the Sydney teams should be relocated to the coast/Wollongong/Newcastle. There shouldn’t be any NZ teams at all, its not really working in A-League/NBL so don’t do it to cricket

  4. It really is the premium sporting product on TV in Summer. It is great to watch and Ten have done a brilliant job of it from the graphics through to the commentary team. I can’t picture it being as good if 7 or 9 had it. The BBL suits Ten perfectly.
