Nine will fast-track the latest Live TV musical from the US, Grease: Live on Tuesday, February 2nd at 8.30pm.

In what will surely draw a bumper crowd, the presentation follows a recent trend in Live to Air musicals including The Sound of Music, Peter Pan and The Wiz (Rocky Horror is also on the way).

The cast includes Julianne Hough (Sandy), Aaron Tveit (Danny Zuko), Vanessa Hudgens (Rizzo), Carlos Penavega (Kenickie), Keke Palmer (Marty), Carly Rae Jepson (Frenchy), David Del Rio (Putzie), Jordan Fisher (Doody), Mario Lopez (Vince Fontaine), Kether Donohue (Jan), Yvette Gonzalez-Nacer (Cha Cha), Andrew Cal (Sonny) and Eve Plumb (Mrs. Murdock).

Ex-Neighbours star Sam Clark also has a role as Leo Balmudo, while Boyz II Men and Jessie J and will also perform (the latter sings the title song).

The show will feature songs from both the stage musical and feature film.

Tuesday, February 2, at 8.30pm on Nine.

  1. I assume TCN9 have picked this up because of the relationship with Jessie J? It’s quite strange since this is the first one they have run… Could it be that FOX haven’t sold the rest for international broadcast?

    1. Actually, one more thing to note: Aaron Tveit will be in Sydney less than two weeks later for Defying Gravity…now that’s something exciting for the theatre folk out there.

  2. We need to see more of these stage performances and less mindless boring reality shows. At least Nine is trying to come up with some new ideas for programming. Viewers are sick of putting up with the same old rubbish night after night.

  3. The Show would have been much better on Foxtel Arts or ABC TV 9 put two many commercial breaks in their programs shows are ruined by commercial breaks

  4. Although I think some of the casting is dubious (and not because they’re way too old to play teenagers – that’s kinda a Grease tradition), I am curious to watch this. There’s many changes between the stage show and the movie so if it’s more like the stage show (like it has been for previous musical adaptions on NBC) it’s gonna confuse viewers who are more familiar with the movie.

  5. Yay! I can not wait to see how Fox do this. NBC, who did the other three live musicals, did a good job, but apparently this will be staged a bit differently.
Now if this rates well, could we get an Australian live musical. We have the talent, so why not.
(Oh, one more thing. NBC announced their musical this year will be Hairspray. But we will need to wait until December for this one.)
