Seven’s new local drama Wanted is set to premiere Tuesday nights in early February.

The drama stars Rebecca Gibney and Geraldine Hakewell plus Steve Peacocke, Nicholas Bell, Mirko Grillini and Ryan Corr. It was created by Gibney and husband, Richard Bell.

Chelsea and Lola are two strangers who’ve silently shared a bus stop every morning for two years. In every conceivable way they’re polar opposites, but underneath they share a quiet desperation of a life not fully lived.

Then one morning, these two strangers are caught up in a carjacking gone wrong and are kidnapped. Now they must put aside their considerable differences and work together to survive. But when they’re framed for murder by a corrupt police officer, they’re forced to go on the run across Australia in a car full of stolen money.

What each woman doesn’t know, however, is that they both carry dark secrets from their past – secrets that will keep them running as much as the growing number of predators on their tail.

As they make their way across the ever-changing landscapes of the Australian continent, Chelsea and Lola will learn to trust one another despite their jarringly different views on just about everything, and eventually – maybe – trust themselves.

The strong, free women they will become bear no resemblance to the unfulfilled and isolated women they’ve left behind. In the face of relentless danger and possible death, they’ve never felt more alive.

9pm Tuesday February 9th on Seven.

  1. Channel 7’s formula for drama.
    1. Contact Rebecca Gibney
    2. Offer her half the budget of the proposed drama.
    3. Make the show as cheaply as possible, lots of plot holes and unknown actors in key parts (a surly teenage girl is always good value)
    4. Find the actor with the least possible chemistry with Gibney and cast him as the romantic lead.
    5. Pour it out to the public like swill to pigs
    6. Repeat the same formula the following year.

    1. Sounds about right.

The above brief sounds like “Secrets and Lies” meets “Hiding” meets “Thelma and Louise”. Quite frankly, I’m so sick of seeing the same faces, giving the same performances, in similar story lines, show in show out. We can’t even get a “slice of life” or “coming-of-age” show in this country unless it’s a hackneyed period drama or a WASPed up soap opera.

  2. After the summer non rating drought(but apparently their are ratings of sort in that period)we are starting to be bombarded by so many new shows & returning shows I think I will find it difficult to keep up.It is stressing me out!

  3. I see Seven have learnt nothing from last year. They killed off quite a few series early last year starting dramas at the too late time of anywhere between 9pm – 9:15. When they started 800 Words closer to 8:30, it rated well. MKR does not need to be 90 min plus episodes every night. The Block started cutting back the length of their episodes at the end of last year, Seven should follow suit and give Wanted the best chance possible of succeeding.

    1. And as per usual I will tape and watch at my leisure as I’m not siting in front of the TV waiting for MKR to finish…whenever that will be. Dramas are treated so poorly by 7. And agree cazz81 abjure 800 Words. Although I wasn’t a big fan it was consistently airing on time.
