High profile Australians and quiet achievers from Media and the Arts were amongst those recognised in today’s Australia Day Honours list.

Today‘s Lisa Wilkinson was honoured for significant service to the print and broadcast media as a journalist and presenter, and to a range of youth and women’s health groups.

“Mentoring young women is something that has given me my greatest joy,” she told The Guardian.

Seven News presenter Melissa Doyle was honoured for significant service to the community through representational roles with a range of charitable groups, and to the broadcast media.

Former Daytime TV host Mike Walsh was recognised for significant service to the entertainment industry, and to the performing arts through support for young actors, theatre restoration and production.

Molly star Sam Johnson was recognised for service to cancer research support organisations, and to the performing arts.

Singer and former Young Talent Time star Tina Arena was honoured for her significant service to the music industry, and for her support to not-for-profit charities, including the support group for wounded soldiers, Soldier On.

“Being inducted into the Hall of Fame was pretty phenomenal. But this Order of Australia is another thing. It’s another level. That one’s got me pretty speechless,” she said.

Former children’s TV presenter Patsy Biscoe was recognised for significant service to the performing arts, and to the television industry, as a children’s entertainer, and to the community of the Barossa Valley.

“The concerts you did with Humphrey or with Fat Cat on stage with kids, and there would be thousands of kids, were just gorgeous,” she told ABC. “I look back with enormous fondness, the children had a ball, the parents were there smiling, they were really happy, exciting occasions.”

  1. Fantastic to read Samuel Johnson has been recognised for everything he has done for LYS and cancer research.

And I have fond memories of Patsy Biscoe as a child, seeing her performance with Fat Cat and Friends at Festival Theatre in Adelaide.

    Thanks for sharing David.
