David Brown, seasoned pro, ad libs weather report.

Not many presenters could manage a weather presentation by committing it to memory.

What a sterling effort by Seven News go-to weather guy David Brown who managed to keep going when the autocue and map stopped during this presentation.

The experienced meteorologist was able to keep going having committed many of the details to memory.

And to think they once replaced him with newbies….

  1. Well done to him. It proves he actually knows his subject and isn’t always reading blindly off an autocue. Great to see his experience and professionalism and didn’t panic. He’d be wearing an ear piece to the control room so as long as they weren’t panicking it would be possible for them to feed him the facts and figures as well. But I’m betting the control room wasn’t as calm as him. Well done.

  2. I should clarify in these situations it’s my understanding that the weather map serves as the autocue itself: that is the presenter draws upon it for their segment rather than a formal script.

  3. Shows what a professional can do, only other person I think that could have done the same was when Channel Ten had the Meteorologist Magdalena Roze doing there weather. Was one of the best along with David Brown, if Magdalena was actually reading an autocue while presenting the weather you would never had known, shame Channel TEn never renewed her contract.

  4. Yes…we do not see enough of him…I like his weather reports…I use to like Alan Wilkie…
Reading an old article from Jan.2008…The Daily Telegraph scribe,.Stephen Downie ends his story with….’ it doesn’t take a meteorologist to read an autocue.’….Oh Yes It Does…when they dont work….*G*

  5. At one stage Sunrise got serious with their weather and had all kinds of contraptions in the studio with David Brown at the helm. Wasn’t long before we went back to weather crosses from the lolly factory.

  6. The difference between a pro and an amateur Barbie. In NSW so only see him around 4-4:30pm. Hate it how the Sydney autocue reader refers to him as “Brownie” (defined as a small square of rich chocolate cake, with nuts). Seven Sydney weather is a joke. Go to a remote of Barbie #1 out in the rain and wind, cut to Barbie #2 in the studio in front of a green screen of Centennial Park on a beautiful sunny blue sky day.
