“Shut up” Ricky Gervais told the “disgusting pill-popping crowd” at the Golden Globe Awards.

“I want to do this monologue and then go into hiding. Even Sean Penn will never find me,” he said.

With a crowd laughing throughout, and beer on the podium, Gervais let loose once again. Amongst a barrage of targets he suggested:

“NBC is the only network with zero nominations.

“I’m going to be nice tonight. I’ve changed,” he said before targetting Caitlyn Jenner. “She’s become a role model for trans people everywhere. Showing great bravery in breaking down stereotypes. She didn’t do a lot for women drivers. But you can’t have everything. Not at the same time.”

He also referred to the President of the HFPA coming on stage and “pulling me off.”

Responding to a suggestion that studios might ban actors from attending with him as host, “As if a film company would stop a star from winning a Golden Globe, particularly if their film company has already paid for it.”

“I’m getting paid the same as Tina and Amy did last year … there’s two of them it’s not my fault they want to share the money.”

And he even described uses for Golden Globe Award as, “One is a doorstop, one I use to hit burglars and the third sits by my bed because … well, it doesn’t matter what I do with it, it’s mine,” before adding another useful as shoving it “up my a*se…. and they wanted me to host 4 times!”

  1. Most the winners I’m happy with but how did Gaga win? Her win makes me thing it was planned because she can’t act, and mr robot was good but not even close to best show. Rami should of won tho

  2. Funniest bit of the night for me was Aziz Ansari pretending to read a book called ‘Losing to Jeffrey Tambor With Dignity’ when he was on screen for his nomination. Can’t believe Fargo got snubbed. Hopefully the Emmy’s are more fruitful.

  3. I always enjoy the Golden Globes because they seem much looser than other awards shows. Having said that, there were a number of strange wins imo.
I’m not bothered by GaGa’s win, she’s good in the role, but I agree with chatter that Dunst was good too…
Gael Garcia Bernal’s win was out of the blue, although he is good in Mozart In The Jungle, it’s just that the charming Ansari is so natural and the consistently sweet/delicate/tough role of Maura in Transparent is a thing to behold by Tambor, especially in the season 2 episodes I’ve seen so far…
Besides Outlander, I loved all of the Drama category nominees so I wasn’t fussed by who won, however after seeing Mr. Robot win it, I was particularly stoked and figured my heart was with it, but my head was with Game Of Thrones…
Wolf Hall being Fargo was bizarre, Slater winning for Mr. Robot was also bizarre (I didn’t think he…

    1. Wolf Hall was an amazing piece of TV. Brilliantly adapted, acted and filmed. S2 of Fargo was a better TV show than S1, but it lacked the impact and novelty that Thornton’s performance gave S1.

All Christian Slater did was mumble anti-capitalist platitudes and unconvincingly pretend to be real. I’d have picked Cummings.

As the HFPA members have attacked GOT for gratuitous nudity, rape of a loved major character and the John Snow lies, they were unlikely to suddenly give it Best Drama Series in S5.

  4. Didn’t really think Christian Slater in Mr. Robot was that great, Rami Malek acted rings around him and lost, however just shows what I know. Plus hey Mad Men was in it’s last season, hopefully Rami Malek will pick one up in the coming years as will Bob Odenkirk (especially with him embracing his dark side going by the season 2 trailer)

  5. A few surprises already.
Disappointed that Bob Odenkirk didn’t win best actor in a TV series.
He was outstanding in Better Call Saul.
Also thought Lady Ga Ga was the wrong choice for best actress as she was nothing special in Hotel. Kirsten Dunst was far more deserving for her role in Fargo.

    1. Agree about Odenkirk altho’ I can’t fault them for picking Hamm again.

Can’t comment on Gaga as I haven’t bothered with AHS this time around but I thought that Dunst was great in Fargo and definitely good enough for a gong.
