FOX has confirmed further details of its Prison Break revival and revealed a rebooted 24 has a pilot order -but without ‘Jack Bauer.’

The news comes just ahead of FOX’s own X-Files revival.

Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell are all confirmed to reprise the roles of brothers Michael Scofield and Lincoln Burrows on Prison Break (the death of ‘Michael Schofield’ will be addressed.). The original producing team of creator Paul T. Scheuring, Neal Moritz, Marty Adelstein and Dawn Olmstead are all aboard for the event series, and Scheuring will again write and showrun the event series, now touted as 9 episodes.

Exec Producers Howard Gordon, Manny Coto and Evan Katz are all back for the new incarnation of 24, said to be dubbed 24: Legacy.

It isn’t expected to include any returning cast, with the lead character said to be an African-American in his 20s.

The Hollywood Reporter tips it will revolve around a military hero recently returned to the US who teams up with the CTU agency.

Stephen Hopkins is also on board to helm the pilot.

  1. The way these are going we might end up seeing Buffy The Vampire Slayer rebooted, after all there was talk of it happening a few years back. What they were thinking of doing was going back to when Buffy first came to Sunnydale and because when Dawn was created it was done as if she had always been there, the plan was to have Dawn arrive in Sunnydale with Buffy and start an alternate worlds version.

With Joss Whedon done with Marvel movies now (Avengers: Age Of Ultron being his last), who knows what might come to pass, even a revisit of Firefly could happen if the cards fell right.

  2. Robert Knepper (T Bag) and Sarah Wayne Callies (Sara) are both in talks to return. According to Sarah it is just a matter of fitting it in around other filming commitments but both are very keen to appear.

I was a huge Prisonbreak fan. Season 1 and 2 were brilliant but it really lost its way in the third season due to the writer’s strike. Season 4 was very hit and miss so it will be interesting to see what they produce.

  3. Great news about 24, but what about Jack? Last we saw he was going off with the Russians. Hopefully he was rescued some time since. Reading the forums in the US there was 24 mini series or something. Is there any word on us getting it here?

I hope Prison Break will be on 7 again & not go to Foxtel.

  4. Firefly coming back would be great but will probably never happen

I’m interested in seeing what they do with a rebooted 24. Would have liked Yvonne Strahovski to have had a role in it though. The Prison Break revival I am indifferent to. I liked the show when it originally aired but season 3 was awful and season four was very hit and miss. Heroes Reborn was okay but would have been better had they maintained Peter and Sylar as main characters, plus new series like Daredevil, Arrow and The Flash made Heroes Reborn look rather lame in execution

  5. It’s been a bad decade for Fox TV. Fox has given up on piloting ideas and are remaking their entire back catalogue of TV shows and movies as “TV Event Series” (except of course Firefly). And lets put a young black actor in one because Empire is the only show rating well for Fox.

An X-Man spinoff with Marvel, Rambo, Lethal Weapon, the Expendables, Behind Enemy Lines, Big, Monster in Law all have had TV treatments in the works for a couple of years.

The X-Files just came out of nowhere and beat them all to air.

  6. I wonder how long it will be until Lost, desperate housewives & ugly Betty are revived? I associate them as the same generation as heroes, 24 & prison break.

    1. No he didn’t. He electrocuted himself so that Sara could escape from prison. This was shown in Prison Break: the Final Break which was a 2 hour movie on the DVD. It wasn’t actually shown on screen so they could quite easily explain his survival.

  7. Hm, reviving a series that finished less than seven years ago, which started off ok but slid into mediocrity is not quite the same as bringing back an absolute classic that people have been clamouring for more from for nearly 14 years.

Perhaps we can look forward to ABC rebooting Lost from the end of Season 5 and finishing it off properly? Actually, all I really want is for Fox to renew Firefly. Just for one season. They owe us that.
