9HD, 9Life coming to NBN Newcastle

Nine appoints a Director of Regional Strategy and announces new channels for Northern NSW.

9HDNorthern NSW viewers of NBN will be seeing 9HD and 9Life in coming months.

The announcement comes along with exec changes at Newcastle-based NBN and QTQ Brisbane.

Deborah Wright, CEO of NBN, will move to a broader role across Nine Entertainment Co. as Director of Regional Strategy working between NBN and TCN in Sydney.

Kylie Blucher, Managing Director of QTQ, will be Managing Director of both QTQ and NBN.

CEO Hugh Marks said, “Deborah’s wealth of experience and knowledge will be invaluable to NEC as we move to the next stage of our engagement with regional audiences. As Director of Regional Strategy, Deborah’s remit will involve not just our television business but our overall media and content strategy.”

“It’s a privilege to have the opportunity to work on NEC’s regional strategy aligned with the company’s overarching strategy of investing in new ideas, innovation and platforms with a key focus on producing more local quality content across all platforms,” Ms Wright said.

“Equally, it has been a wonderful privilege working in regional media for the past 30 years and I’m thrilled that the value my experience brings to the greater business needs at this point in time has created this very special role opportunity.”

Kylie Blucher said: “I am very grateful to be given the opportunity to work with the incredibly professional NBN team who have set the benchmark in regional broadcasting for near on 54 years. Deborah has spearheaded NBN’s commitment and support of the Northern New South Wales region and I look forward to strengthening this commitment with the full support of the network in the coming years.”

Changes will be effective immediately, with a handover period from Deborah to Kylie.

  1. Could this be when Nine finally switches the NBN brand to Channel 9?

    With Deborah’s new role to manage strategy between the network and NBN it seems the two will finally move closer

    Launching 9HD instead of NBNHD would surely be preferred, and that might mean the NBN brand fades away too.
