The cast keeps building for the US pilot of Upper Middle Bogan.
Katey Sagal (Sons of Anarchy, Futurama, Married… With Children) will play Julie Wheeler, the matriarch originally portrayed by Robyn Malcolm in the Australian series.
She joins John Carroll Lynch, who plays her on-screen husband (originally Glenn Robbins), and Swoosie Kurtz in the role created by Robyn Nevin.
The untitled US adaptation is written by Robyn Butler, Wayne Hope and Dan O’Shannon.
2016 will be a busy time for Butler & Hope with a third season also coming on ABC later this year.
The ABC series has also been airing in the US via Hulu known as Bess of Both Worlds.

Good get. I didn’t get into the Aus version but she is certainly a reason to give this one a go.
Great, great actress. I wonder how many here know that she was also once a member of Bette Midler’s backing group, The Harlettes, back in the day.
Katey also done backing vocals on Gene Simmons 1978 solo album.
me too, love this woman, such a great actress in many varied genres….
Okay, I have to say that this casting is on point! I love the original show but I’m definitely willing to give this version a try.
Yeah looks like Katy Sagal will be returning to her comedy roots. Although like most other US adaptations of Australian shows which were on the ABC, they will likely not resonate with the US and will get the axe.
You mean they won’t like it.
If this works what a run of hits on TV Katey Sagal would have been involved with, as along with the ones mentioned above she was also in 8 Simple Rules (for Dating My Teenage Daughter), amongst others. Not many people get to play different roles, especially after being as much loved as she was as Peggy Bundy, most times people don’t buy into an actor playing someone else after a role like that.
Good, a reason for me to give it a chance…:)
