US procedural Bones has been renewed for a 12th and final season.

Stars David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel have closed deals to return, along with showrunners Jonathan Collier and Michael Peterson.

“In times like these, marked by instability and doubt, it’s comforting to know the world can count on at least one dependable beacon of stability. Apparently, that beacon is Bones,” said creator and executive producer Hart Hanson. “It just shows what you can do with an amalgam of genius cast, amazing crew, cunning writers, stalwart studio, sweat, a tough economy, a mercurial network, determination, luck, magic, miracles and the most loyal audience in the world.”

On Twitter Emily Deschanel said, “As sad as it is to know something you have loved doing for 11 years will be ending, I am so glad we will have the opportunity to end it well.

“Thank you for the most loyal, dedicated and kind fans in the world! We couldn’t have done any of this without you! We are so lucky to have had the talented writers, producers, directors, fellow actors, crew members we have had on @BONESonFOX thank you all.”

David Boreanaz has previously said,  “This is for the fans! Thank you to everyone at Fox and, of course, Dana and Gary — for all your support. Thank you to Hart, Stephen, Ian [Toynton], Michael and Jonathan. Also to the crew and cast for their countless support along the way! And I couldn’t have done it without you, Emily!”

The season will consist of 12 episodes instead of 22.

In November, executive producer Barry Josephson filed lawsuit against FOX claiming that he was cheated out of profits from the series. Days later, Deschanel and Boreanaz filed a similar lawsuit for “tens of millions of dollars” in profits.

  1. An early announcement of the final will hopefully give them the opportunity to finish the series properly.

Watched the bones ep of the bones / sleepy hollow crossover. Was a bit weird but kinda worked from the perspective of someone whos not watched sleepy hollow. The case appeared to be wrapped up so does anyone know if part 2 is a new case or continuation? Google says sleepy hollow airs on eleven. Have I missed part 2 or are they behind?

    1. It continues on Sleepy Hollow, but the Bones cast only appear for a short time, so if you don’t watch that show, i wouldn’t bother. i am not a fan of crossovers and this one was weird.
