Netflix renews its hit prison series for three more seasons.

Netflix has ambitiously renewed Orange is the New Black for not 1, not 2 but 3 more seasons.

The news comes ahead of the fourth season in June.

Series creator and showrunner Jenji Kohan will continue at the helm for seasons 5, 6, and 7.

“Three more years! Not quite a political term, but still plenty of time to do some interesting things. In some cultures, ‘May you lead an interesting life,’ is a curse, but I don’t live in those cultures,” said Kohan in a statement.

“Here’s to keeping it interesting. Thanks, Netflix! Both thanks and you’re welcome Lionsgate! And kudos and gratitude to the stellar cast and crew and writers and producers and editors and musicians and mixers and shleppers … with whom I have the pride and honor of crafting this show. Three more years! Three more years!”

  1. Last season it switched to being more of sitcom (just as it got moved into the drama category), with touches of Breaking Bad. Who knows where it will be in 4 seasons time!

Looks like Piper is never going to get out.

    1. Yes, it seems the Piper charactor is transorming the more time she is in prison…which you would think would naturally happen. But yeah, looks like she is never going to get out!

Netflix seems to be having a tendency to drag things out. House of Cards is similar. If it is successful they are going to milk it for all it worth. Which is a shame, as the impact of the original UK version (of HoC) was enhanced by the sudden impact of the resolution of the story arc.

I hope both of these programs don’t just peter out or lose viewers because they drag on for too long.
