Seven has reportedly made an offer to TEN’s sports presenter Mel McLaughlin to join the network.
McLaughlin, who was at the centre of Chris Gayle by comments branded as sexist last month, is considering the offer.
“It doesn’t surprise me that there is interest elsewhere,” said TEN’s sports boss Dave Barham.
“She’s been fantastic for us and has done a great job. I’ll be chatting to Mel over the next couple of days about her future.”
With Seven, McLaughlin would have the chance to cover the Rio Olympics and upcoming Commonwealth Games, amongst other key events.
A Seven spokesperson said: “We don’t discuss confidential negotiations with any on-air talent.”

Mel is excellent at what she does…and good on Ten for bringing a female into the hosting duties….and not just a reporter. Is she contracted to Ten? Given Ten’s lack of sport now-a-days….I would think she would not be required full time at Ten. I have only seen her doing Big Bash and Grand Prix. Maybe Ten just lets her go to Seven to do the Games. Then again…Seven has enough sport for her to be full time….if she is into horse racing! I hope Seven let her into their male dominated hosting roles if she does make the move.
She’d be crazy not to
Also you have to figure that with the Women’s AFL Competition starting up in 2017 and Seven looking to telecast those matches (after the success of the exhibition match last year), it would be a perfect time for Mel to make the move.
As a sports journalist and clearly a sports fan, I would think the temptation would be too great… Id jump ship too!
I think Mel could also cover the Pyeongchang games as she has done it for Sochi 2014 back on 10. She should be suitable to do some hosting duties in Korea.
Should be interesting too see if that pact between Kerry Stokes & Lachlan Murdoch is still in place after the James Warburton debacle.
