Sam Armytage replaced as host of Kristin Davis fundraiser

Despite a truckload of publicity, organisers ask Sam Armytage not to host their fundraiser.

Sunrise host Samantha Armytage has been replaced as host of Kristin Davis’ UNHCR fundraiser today, following yesterday’s Sex and The City sketch.

She will be replaced by UNHCR director Naomi Steer.

The programme today told viewers everyone forgot about the interview they did with Davis on the refugee crisis and focussed on the sketch.

“Kristin was a great sport to put up with the terrible acting and really bad wigs. But Kristin was offended and we’re very sorry. That wasn’t our intention, ” said David Koch.

Sunrise also partnered with the UNHCR in promoting a fundraising event in Kristin’s honour being held today. I was asked to MC the event and conduct a Q & A with Kristin on stage. I immediately accepted,” Armytage said.

“Since our interview yesterday, organisers have asked Sam not to host the event or to attend it at all. That was unexpected. We wish them the best of luck with the event,” Koch continued.

“I always was, and I still am, very happy to host this fundraiser. It’s such an important cause,” Armytage added.
Ironically, as a result of the sketch backfiring, the Davis visit has had more publicity than it could have dreamed of…

  1. Womans Day / New Idea article sure to come in next couple of weeks with Armytage playing the victim, follow up article the next week with Mel Greig explaining how she would have been the victim if given the opportunity to interview Davis

  2. Really these people should get over themselves. It was a skit. Perhaps too easily offended. If I was the boss of Seven, which i am not I would instantly pull any promos that were going to air free, if there were any and only give the event a brief news mention. With the skit they achieved publicity that was pure gold………either milk it for all it is worth or just get over it. What is UNHCR anyway ?

    1. The office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. So obviously the publicity didn’t work that well, as you don’t know what she was here for…

  3. This reminds me of the a few years ago when a painted black faced red faces Jackson 5 act offended Harry Connick Jr on the Hey Hey It’s Saturday (failed) comeback specials. Harry thought the red faces act was extremely racist and offensive to the point that Darryl Somers had to apologise live on air. At the time I remember Darryl described the incident as a “storm in a teacup”. Maybe some American guests such as Kristin need to lighten up and accept things for what they are, light hearted fun, not offensive behaviour aimed at upsetting people. I watched the Sex and City sketch live on sunrise and thought it was harmless fun and not intended to offend. Rant over.

  4. Wow I cannot believe she really too it that far. Kochie did make a good point. American talk shows do these skits all the time. I know Americans do not get our sense of humour but they did speak to her about her charity work first. Not like they completely ignored it.

    1. She starred in one of the most culturally influential television shows ever. It’s strange that you are on a website devoted to TV and yet you don’t know this.

  5. The skit was tacky, and Sunrise is crap television – but how precious is this woman.. SATC gave this woman the lifestyle and fortune so she can now actually devote her time to these causes.. I hate these people who turn their back on the very thing that made them successful. Really is Kristen known for anything else? Not exactly a household name

    1. To be fair, wherever she travels and is interviewed, I am sure that there are questions about SATC, which is fair enough and I’m sure he accepts that as part and parcel of the gig. I’d suggest though there is a difference between a few questions and being hauled over to the other side of the studio to re-enact a scene from the show.
I would have thought a skit like the one yesterday should have been vetted with either Davis or her agent rather than just springing it on her unexpectedly.

  6. I don’t even know why they do those bad wig sketches, who are they trying to appeal to? From the Love Boat, to Gilligans Island and now this sketch, hopefully they’ve realized they are not funny and stop wasting time.

  7. She didn’t have to do the sketch. Why be so serious about it, it was all a bit of fun even though it never really worked. Kristin got her free publicity for her cause. How ungrateful of her.

  8. Wow!
That skit must have really p*ssed off Kristen !

Don’t blame her for not wanting another session with Sam though – Ms Armytage really is the most grating, obnoxious, annoying woman on television.

    1. Yes, she must have been more than a little upset, to the point where she did not wish to go another round with Armytage. In fact, Armytage was completely uninvited from the event, she was told not to turn up, so Davis is clearly very angry.
