Meanwhile Nine has had its best summer since 2006-07, thanks to Cricket and by having a 4th channel, 9Life.

Nine will win the Demos for summer and is currently ahead of Seven in Total People share by just 1%. With premium programming on air this week, it’s going to be a tight race.

Andrew Backwell, Nine’s Managing Director of Programming & Production, said: “With one week of summer to go, we’re thrilled to be the leading network over this ratings period for the first time in nine years. These figures show just how popular cricket is with Australian viewers, and clearly they love the international contests the most.

“These results give us great momentum heading into the official ratings period in what promises to be a huge year for free-to-air television.”

2016 ratings begin on Sunday.

  1. Nine only have the cricket and the extra channel to thank, they certainly haven’t had much more on over Summer, will be interesting to see they can keep on top without the cricket and see what happens when seven get their new channel.
