A Few Good Men to become next US Live TV event
Move over musicals, America is now turning to Dramas as Live TV events.

Following on from Live TV musicals The Sound of Music, Peter Pan, The Wiz, Grease and The Passion, US TV is now turning to Drama events.
Aaron Sorkin will adapt A Few Good Men into a live TV event for NBC. Sorkin (The West Wing, The Newsroom) also wrote the original Broadway play and feature film screenplay.
Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, who are currently producing NBC’s Hairspray Live will executive produce alongside Sorkin for Universal Television in association with Sony Pictures Television and Warner Bros. Television.
“I am thrilled that Aaron Sorkin is coming back to NBC to adapt and produce a live broadcast of his electrifying play A Few Good Men, which seems as timely as ever today,” said NBC Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt.
“Aaron is one of the most acclaimed theater, television and film authors of our time, and I am pleased that the live event business that we pioneered with musicals is now expanding into other genres and attracting artists of his caliber. I look forward to his collaboration with our ‘A-team’ producers, Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, to bring another exciting piece of live drama to a broad audience.”
Expanding Live events from musicals to drama will broaden the horizon for more potential events -how long before somebody greenlights 12 Angry Men?
A Few Good Men is expected in 2017.

We’ve had live ER, and live 30 Rock (two version no less for East and West coast time differences) – but a feature length live broadcast will be something else. Though the setting of a courtroom isn’t overly exciting.
Hopefully they get Jason Alexander to play the role of colonel Nathan Jessup.
So they’re broadcasting a theatrical performance …
My understanding is it will be mounted for television, same as the musicals.
Cinemas chains do it all the time, I can remember seeing an advertisement for Peter Morgan’s The Audience.
There was a similar thing in 2000. “Fail Safe” was a live tv movie drama. Filmed in black and white to evoke the cold war era. It was full of tension and pretty darn good iirc. Had an all star cast including George Clooney and Richard Dreyfuss.
OH …… for a second there i thought it was being adapted into alive musical broadcast. It wasn’t a very good film maybe some singing would of helped!
They’ve come the full cycle.
Sixty years ago pretty much everything they broadcast was live, direct into your living room … because good quality vid tape hadn’t been invented!
