Next month Discovery Channel will premiere a one-off special, Steven Avery: Innocent or Guilty? which delves into the events leading to the conviction of Steven Avery in 2005, the case at the centre of the Netflix hit Making a Murderer.

It’s a case that has become an international obsession, and has sparked outrage over what’s been called a miscarriage of justice. With strange, murky facts, and the prior wrongful conviction of Steven Avery which saw him imprisoned for 18 years for a crime he didn’t commit, there have been some serious questions raised about the U.S. criminal justice process from investigation to conviction.

Steven Avery: Innocent or Guilty? presents the latest in this great mystery, and takes an in-depth look at the evidence, the key players, and the controversy around the case.

9:30m Friday April 8 on Discovery.

  1. Wow, how irresponsible. The issue is about reasonable doubt and a corrupted system of justice. It’s impossible to boil it down to innocent or guilty because of the manner in which the investigation and trial was run.

All we know for certain is that there is no way in hell the case put forward at his and Brendan Dassy’s trials is how she died. Every single piece of evidence is tainted to varying degrees.

I personally think he’s most likely innocent but the system is not, “innocent or guilty” it is “guilty or not guilty.” Decided with a burden of proof. There is no way at all anyone can decide beyond reasonable doubt he is guilty. Yet the system found that. That is the issue.

The investigation ignored everything that pointed away from him, destroyed evidence, clearly planted some. Everything is tainted.
