A last minute deal has seen FOX Sports and Nine jointly securing broadcast rights for the Twenty20 World Cup in India -just days before it begins.

The deal follows a potential blackout with reports the pricetag from Star India, owned by Rupert Murdoch’s 21st Century Fox.

FOX Sports will air all 35 matches while Nine will broadcast all matches featuring Australia as well as the finals. FOX Sports will also air all matches from the Women’s Twenty20 World Cup.

FOX Sports CEO, Patrick Delany, said: “Today’s announcement will ensure Australians get to watch every game of this month’s anticipated ICC World Twenty20 live, ad break free and in high definition. It’s a fantastic outcome for cricket fans, and for the sport.

“I’m sure the whole country will be right behind Steve Smith and his men as they aim to win their first ICC World Twenty20 title,” Mr Delany said.

Hugh Marks Nine CEO said: “Cricket fans should get set for what I’m sure will be a high action, high energy World Twenty20 with our Australian team every chance of bringing home their first World Twenty20 title. It’s great to add this premium event to Nine’s expansive coverage of international cricket, with every Australian game and the finals live to all Australians.”

Australia’s first match is Friday against New Zealand.

Scheduling is yet to be confirmed.

  1. Pitty they didn’t pick up the NHRA as that’s still on offer to any FTA or Pay channel that sticks it’s hand up.

Oh well lets hope some TV execs are going to Sportel Asia 15-17 March in Singapore and strike up a deal with Greenlight International TV.

Would be a perfect fit for ONE, 7mate, TV4ME or any channel that is interested in the Fastest and Quickest Motorsports on the planet. Come on we want our NHRA back on TV.

what expansive coverage? outside of the home series, World Cup and the Ashes, cricket doesn’t exist to your network. Also, we have < 1% chance of winning this comp.

  3. Well that put’s the kibosh on my plans for “Cricket for Gamblers”, Blackjack Cricket or more simply 21/21 Cricket. Two teams, the “reds” and the “blacks”, 21 overs, 21 players who pick their team out of a hat and the last man plays for both teams. The rules include bonuses for the team that hits 21 “fours” or 21 “sixes” or moves the 3 stumps 7 times. Betting is encouraged and the odds are shown on the scoreboard.

  4. All 35 matches are 8.30pm and 1.00am EDT.
    Australian matches are as follows:
Mar 18 vs NZ 8.30pm EDT
Mar 23 vs qualifier 1.00am EDT
Mar 25 vs Pakistan 8.30pm EDT
Mar 28 vs India 1.00am EDT
Semis are Mar 31 1.00am EDT and Apr 1 1.00am.
Final is Apr 4 1.00am EDT.

      1. NRL on Gem. WT20 on Nine I imagine. What’s more interesting is which will be on Nine in NSW/Qld given the NRL already airs on Nine there instead of Gem.

        1. What I’m saying about the NRL/WT20 is that these two events are happening simultaneously. Perhaps Gem would screen the Aus matches for NSW/QLD/ACT viewers while VIC/SA/TAS/WA might see it on either Nine or Go depending on the programming.

          1. Yes. Something like that. I’m sure the smart people at nine have a plan and both will be shown on the most appropriate channel in each location.
