The rumour mill is turning with whispers Foxtel CEO Richard Freudenstein may depart following NYC-based News Corp CEO Robert Thomson being in the country and a Foxtel Board meeting earlier this week.
Speculation about his position has been going on for some months.
Freudenstein succeeded Kim Williams in December 2011 after he launched The Australian’s pay-wall subscription, where he was previously CEO.
During this time he has combatted digital disruption by offering lower-price packaging, plus Presto, bundling and TEN partnership as key corporate moves. This year Foxtel announced 100 jobs to go in its customer service ranks and a recent price increase for its basic package and has recently lost both Showtime and EPL deals.
Freudenstein is also a member of TEN’s Board.
The Australian Financial Review notes NewsLifeMedia’s Nicole Sheffield, formerly head of LifeStyle Channels, as a potential successor.
“Sorry we don’t comment on that sort of speculation,” a spokesperson told Mumbrella.
