The announcement of Brendan Fevola as King of the Jungle in I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here drew 858,000 viewers.

Falling on a long weekend in some cities, it was well down on the 1.14m who tuned in to see ‘Freddie’ Flintoff crowned in 2015.

The bulk of the finale averaged 719,000 viewers – also down on 2015’s 999,000 viewers.

The finale was trumped by MKR and ABC’s Doc Martin, both after 7:30pm.

The night was also not kind to the first half of Nine’s Australia’s Got Talent grand final on just 575,000 viewers -a mere 1,000 viewers above the show’s lowest ever figures.

Seven network won convincingly with 31.5% then Nine 25.5%, TEN 18.4%, ABC 17.7% and SBS 7.0%.

My Kitchen Rules topped the night at 1.45m viewers for Seven then Seven News (1.03m), Sunday Night (755,000), and The Blacklist (351,000 / 272,000).

Nine News (1.01m) was best for Nine then 60 Minutes (695,000) and Australia’s Got Talent (575,000). The Amazing Noughties was 276,000.

Following I’m A Celebrity for TEN were American Crime Story (605,000), TEN Eyewitness News was 304,000 and NCIS: New Orleans was 256,000.

Doc Martin drew a big crowd for ABC at 1.04m viewers then ABC News (862,000), Call the Midwife (680,000) and Joanna Lumley’s Nile (407,000). Compass drew 275,000.

On SBS it was Egypt: What Lies Beneath (217,000), The Story of Egypt (209,000), SBS World News (149,000) and Dan Snow: Last Heroes of D-Day (106,000).

Best on multichannels was Peppa Pig at 221,000.

  1. I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here! Finale Night drew 727k
I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here! Winner Announced drew 1.06m
American Crime Story: The People Vs O.J Simpson drew 487k

  2. in regards to im a celeb. apart from this year airing on the same night as mkr last year celeb was simulcast on all tens channels. So i think it was a good effort in the scheme of things this year

  3. Great to see a good show like Doc Martin smash rubbish like I’m a Celebrity & Australia’s Got talent.
Finally MKR is out of the Instant Restaurant stage, that has taken a long time!

  4. Channel 9 has the worst start to 2016 ratings season on record with audience shares plummeting by 13%. Hopefully 9 fix up as soon as possible after Easter.

  5. I think TEN will be happy with last night’s I’m a Celeb figures, because they’ll factor, on top of the 1 million recorded Metro viewers, there were increased social media votes, up from last year (according to Julia and Chris). So, there’s probably interest in the show to look at returning next year.

  6. The writers of this season’s Doc Martin have extracted thy digit and created some excellent opportunities for the lead characters. The location shooting round Port Isaac is also much improved and takes advantage of the beautiful Cornwall country side and coastline.
Last season was so boring we nearly gave it away.
Also, CSI Cyber has picked up dramatically with the introduction of Ted Danson to the cast and the rejigging of the previous seasons basic synopsis.
A shame Danson’s character doesn’t last beyond the current season.

  7. Looks like abc did the right thing moving Doc Martin to Sundays, although I did prefer it on Saturday nights. I love that it is paired with the brilliant Call the Midwife though makes for a nice double. But with those two and Downton all on at the top of the year, I will miss the feel good English shows when they are over.

  8. Australia’s Got Talent should have been run Saturday nights when afl season starts. Ten has to be disappointed with celebrity ratings considering the investment and I think they deserved better .. Has been a good season

    1. These franchise shows have a big licensing fee and I don’t think that they would get a good enough ROI showing it on a Saturday night

  9. i see shares in TEN are one of the biggest decliners on the market today without any announcements it is probably a response to last nights ratings.

    1. Not sure if that would be the case, throughout the series I’m A Celebrity has been in the top 5 in all demographics, with last night it coming 2nd to My Kitchen Rules in the 18-49 demographics, plus 2nd and 3rd in the other ones.

  10. I have tried to watch Doc Martin on previous occasions, what a boring show. Then again l am not much into UK TV shows, I find them a lil stuffy. Enjoyed i’m a Celebrity. Be interesting to see how AGT will go tonight.

    1. I only got into Doc Martin in recent years. So havn’t seen much early episodes. When I have seen one, I’ve noticed it is a little boring. I think the later episodes are tighter and have better support characters than the early one’s.

  11. David – some context is really needed here. MKR didn’t air last year on I’m A Celebrity’s finale night. Plus Ten had a boost from the Grand Prix.

  12. One of the dance acts on AGT (Phly) was pretty amazing but the camera was on the judges’ faces for about 60% of it so I had no idea what the audience was oohing and aching about. Sophie’s speaking voice is so strange I wonder what her album (Calendar Girl) sounds like.

  13. surprised AGT did so well tbh, I flicked to it for the first time last night to see a dance troupe in very revealing spandex thrusting & giggling their groins for the camera while the judge, Osbourne I think, kept basically drooling over it. Quality family viewing right there, along with the brilliant timeslot it was forever doomed, loving 9Life though, always something semi decent on when all others channels fall flat

    1. It depends if the word “Premier” was being used as an adjective or noun. As an adjective you could say it was Premier, as the meaning would be: “top-ranked” or “leading”.
