SKY News has confirmed Peta Credlin, former Chief of Staff to PM Tony Abbott, has been appointed as a Contributor ahead of the 2016 Federal Election campaign coverage.

Angelos Frangopoulos, CEO Australian News Channel said: “Peta is a central figure on the Australian political landscape and we are delighted to welcome her to the SKY News team. Her experience navigating the mechanics of government from the position of both leadership and opposition will provide unmatched political insight during our election programming.”

Peta Credlin added, “To say a lot has happened since the Coalition was elected in September 2013 would be an understatement. The Prime Minister has set up a challenge for the Senate which could deliver a lengthy double-dissolution campaign. There’s no doubt if this happens that the campaign will be a test of endurance in policy, political and funding terms for all parties and in particular Malcolm Turnbull and Bill Shorten.

“My first federal campaign was in 2001 and every campaign is fascinating, every campaign matters and every campaign is different. I look forward to joining the well-respected political team at SKY News and adding some insider value to their coverage in 2016.”

She will join the channel in May.

A skilled political tactician and strategist, Peta most recently served as the Chief of Staff to former Prime Minister, the Hon Tony Abbott MP, a position she also held during his time as Leader of the Opposition. Peta has 16 years experience working in federal politics including as an adviser, senior adviser and chief of staff to four Howard Government Cabinet ministers in the portfolio areas of communications, foreign affairs, immigration and defence.

Between 2007 and 2013, Peta was senior adviser to former Leader of the Opposition the Hon Dr Brendan Nelson and Deputy Chief of Staff to the Hon Malcolm Turnbull. Following Tony Abbott’s election as Leader of the Opposition in December 2009, Peta took on the role as chief of staff and remained in this position until September 2015. She is one of Australia’s longest serving prime ministerial chiefs of staff and the longest serving female to hold this role.

  1. Is there any one from the liberal party not joining sky news. Suprise suprise . Next thing you know Tony Abbott will have his own sports show on sky news .no wonder the ratings keep declining I for one refuse to watch it because of all the right wing bias on their . Thank goodness for CNN and ABc news24. Far more balanced .

  2. Its the same spiral as the News Ltd papers. As audience numbers decline, the channel gets more and more shrill and partisan, resulting in (surprise surprise) further audience decline. No wonder ABC News 24 get triple the audience as Sky.

    1. With Richo (former ALP powerbroker) on this same panel, that is a hard argument to make. we may not like some people’s opinions but in a free country… suck it up.

      1. sorry for the multi reply. But add to that the most probable inclusion of Kristina Keneally (Fmr ALP NSW Premier) and Peter Beattie (Fmr ALP QLD Premier), it looks like a moderately balanced panel. It’s best to watch the channel before commenting.
