Google has often been viewed with some level of contempt by networks investing in local production but now Seven West Media has signed a deal to have its content streamed globally on YouTube.

Short form content from shows such as My Kitchen Rules will be available on YouTube, while full length-episodes will remain on Plus7.

“This is an exciting step in Seven’s delivery of owned content anywhere, any time to global audiences and our partnership with YouTube supports our growing investments in content creation,” Seven director of content, distribution and rights Therese Hegarty said.

Google Australia’s outgoing managing director Maile Carnegie, added, “We’re thrilled that fans of Seven West Media’s great programming around the globe – from Home and Away followers in Ireland to My Kitchen Rules fans in Estonia – will now be able to keep up to date with their favourite characters on YouTube.”

Advertising will be sold by Yahoo7 in Australia, while Seven West Media will do the advertising sales for the rest of the world.

    1. Marketing spin. When they say “signed a deal” they mean “ticked a box on the sign-up screen that says that they have read the terms and conditions”. 😉

    2. They might if they want some of the pre-roll or pop-up ad money. They’d issue take-down notices for their material uploaded by others.

    3. I am advised not everyone can put content on YouTube. Seven will be and will be monetising it by advertising they are selling into it. Youtube is not selling ad inventory around the content. Seven will be selling to their clients and inserting via their ad technology.
