Simpsons memes troll Seven News facebook

What do you get when you ask viewers to alert you to local news tips? This.

You just can’t write this stuff…

For the past week, Seven News Facebook page has been trolled with memes of The Simpsons masquerading as hot news tips from punters.

It follows Seven getting the brainwave of asking viewers to contact them with local news tips and videos.

But some took inspiration from posts on Simpsons community pages Four Finger Discount and Compuglobalhypermeganet Australia & New Zealand and let rip at Seven’s expense.

After a while, Seven began to realise the only way to respond was with its own funny bone.

  1. Love it. Not new to ask the public for news tips, but in the age of social media you’re just asking for trouble. Journalists being lazy and scouring social media for stories is a new fad and not a good one.

  2. This is what happens when you try to outsource journalism. All journalists please repeat after me – social media is not news, responses on social media to newsworthy events is still not news. Twatter, facestalk and selfiegram are not and never will be news.
