Less marketing for IQ3?

Foxtel site is pushing the IQ2 set top box after a string of complaints on IQ3, says media report.

Foxtel’s website is pushing its IQ2, a year after its IQ3 model launched to a rocky start, according to one media report.

Fairfax writes that the earlier model was being pushed through its website, whilst marketing for the IQ3 has stopped. The latter has been the subject of customer complaints since its March 2015 launch.

Both models are visible on the Foxtel site.

“We have and are continuing to make software updates to improve stability and features of the iQ3 box,” a spokesperson said.

“We are confident that any problems some customers have experienced either have been addressed or will be in the near future.”

Earlier this week it reported a public float for Foxtel was being delayed until 2017.

Fairfax is a joint partner in SVOD service Stan, with Nine.

  1. Talking to one of their ‘drones’ recently the IQ3 is now only being installed by a technician because they think most of the issues were because us users couldn’t connect the unit to the internet properly. According to the ‘drone’ “hundreds of staff” had the IQ3 for ages with “no problems”.
I must admit to laughing loudly.
It was a rushed delivery to keep customers from moving to Netflix and as a tech-savy customer it was a complete debacle.
No wonder Foxtel continue to push IQ2.

  2. I was in the phone to Foxtel yesterday and they were trying to get me to upgrade to the IQ3. I would take the report from Fairfax with a grain of salt

    1. Well, I wouldn’t take one call-centre drone, trying to improve their KPI by upselling a customer, to be wholly indicative of Foxtel’s marketing strategy. If you look at their website you can see that they have deprecated the iQ3 in favour of the iQ2. You can still get the iQ3 but they’re def not pushing it like they were.

      1. And I wouldn’t take a story in a newspaper which owns a competing SVOD Service as gospel.
Offering the IQ2 as the main box on the Foxtel website isn’t a new thing it’s been like that for months. It’s like a phone plan…. The older model phone is usually a free handset and the new model phone always costs a fortune…. Same thing here.
It’s a bit hard for Foxtel to look attractive to new customers if they advertise a STB for $300 upfront (I think it is) plus installation when they can offer a IQ2 and Installation for $99
