While all the attention has been on Nine’s faltering titles of late, TEN’s new reunion series Long Lost Family is yet to build a sustained audience.

It began with 564,000 viewers last month and last night averaged 453,000. While the show is arguably a placeholder before the might of MasterChef begins, it’s going to need better numbers if it wants longevity.

Last night MKR again dominated, up from last Wednesday’s 1.25m. ABC’s Home Delivery The Weekly hand Luke Warm Sex all enjoyed modest lifts while Nine’s ACA was well ahead of its post-Easter outing a week ago.

Seven Network won with 33.2% then Nine 25.1%, ABC 17.7%, TEN 15.8% and SBS 8.1%.

My Kitchen Rules was #1 with 1.3m viewers then Seven News (1.03m / 967,000), Home and Away (787,000), Criminal Minds (747,000) and The Chase (602,000 / 413,000). Blindspot was 251,000.

Nine News (1.01m / 976,000) was best for Nine then A Current Affair (936,000), The Big Bang Theory (833,000 / 711,000) and Hot Seat (569,000). The Secret Life of the Zoo was 238,000 in 3 cities and NRL Footy Show was 194,000 in 2 cities. Animal Rescue Thailand was 153,000 in 3 cities.

ABC News (790,000) topped the night for ABC followed by 7:30 (664,000), Julia Zemiro’s Home Delivery (595,000), The Weekly with Charlie Pickering (590,000), Luke Warm Sex (448,000) and Adam Hills: The Last Leg (325,000).

The Project (535,000 / 396,000) was best for TEN. TEN Eyewitness News was 534,000, Long Lost Family was 453,000, Madam Secretary was 358,000 and The Good Wife was 252,000.

On SBS it was 24 Hours in Emergency (301,000), Walking Through History (236,000), Vikings (216,000), and SBS World News (144,000).

Ben and Holly’s Little Kingdom (246,000) ruled multichannels.

Sunrise: 325,000

  1. Ten needs to start by looking at The Project. Starting it at 6:30 means they will always lose half their audience to H&A at 7pm. It needs to revert back to a half hour run. I would love to see something like Big Brother back at 7pm weeknights to give them a lead-in for their primetime content. Nine butchered it but it’s not beyond revival.

  2. As i have commented about other shows i feel this show also suffers from confusing scheduling because of the encore editions, its confusing as to which is the first run & which is the encore, people dont get it embedded into their minds which is its regular night.
I don’t find it boring as such but it seems a bit too slow paced to me. Especially when they recap after each ad break, i hate shows that do that & Ten do alot, like with Bondi Rescue/Vet , just another way to extend the show time i guess. Its almost like an hr is too long, yet 1/2 hr is too short for these types of reality shows.

  3. Very good numbers for ‘Criminal Minds’-a real stalwart of the 7 line up, especially given the late start time and the generally nasty content inherent in it.

  4. I think Ten made a mistake putting Long Lost Family against Julia Zemiro’s Home Delivery – surely these shows would have a similar target audience?

  5. The trouble with Long Lost Family is that it comes across as quite boring.
I just haven’t found the participants or their back stories very interesting or inspiring at all so far.
But good on them for having the courage to go through with meeting their long lost relatives in such a public way. I’m sure at least a couple of the parents have turned out to be nothing like the children have imagined – I’m sure I saw more than a flicker of disappointment cross several of their children’s faces the first time they met.
Hope it works out for them all.

    1. Going to have disagree there. I love the show, but I’m not a typical ten watcher. I’m not sure if a 7:30 Wednesday timeslot is the best time to get emotional either.

  6. Interestingly ACA was at 789,000, 3,000 lower than Home and Away on Monday night. So the audiences must be swayed by the content advertised on a nightly basis for it to fluctuate that significantly…..
Yet H&A continues to fluctuate in the low 800,00’s to mid 700,000’s. While I note all the changes with multi-channels the double and triple episodes have hurt their brand in my opinion. I know some story lines might be argued as not as good as previous etc., scheduling changes is still an issue.

  7. Unfortunately Ten decided to put this show up against a juggernaut and it was never going to come close. They should have run it on the back of Masterchef to get an embedded audience. I have said it many times Ten has to address the start times for their shows. They were so more successful when they had a 7pm start time and frankly they should go back to it. Nine and Seven have commitments at 7pm so Ten can claim that again. The Project has stalled and are not gaining new viewers in my view. It has a lot of time to grow and it’s not happening. Kick it to a 30 min show at 6.30 and reduce presenters to 3. Ten need to do something or their ratings will always be lower than the rest.

      1. Not suggesting they do nothing just launch it from a rating show. In addition all channels need to fast track shows after their orgin broadcast. Shows like NCIS are broadcast here 3-6 months later. That’s unacceptable in a digital world. That’s why their numbers are lower.
