That was quick. Just a day after My Kitchen Rules ends, Nine grabs back a win thanks to the finale of Married at First Sight.

Coded into two segments it drew 1.11m / 1.05m as the top show for Wednesday. It was a clever outcome after Nine reshuffled its decks around the end of the MKR final.

House Rules launched to 718,000 viewers, a disappointing figure given how MKR had been travelling. It was the lowest season launch yet for the show and suggests Seven may now have to combat that same renovation fatigue Nine has experienced. It has 2 episodes tonight before heated competition begins.

All Star Family Feud drew 550,000 in a rare Wednesday outing for TEN. ABC’s Ronny Chieng: International Student pilot was up on Luke Warm Sex while SBS saw lifts for Untold Australia and Vikings.

Nine network won with 29.3% then Seven 28.7%, ABC / TEN tied on 16.9% and SBS 8.2%.

Married at First Sight (1.11m / 1.05m) was best for Nine followed by Nine News (1.03m / 963,000), A Current Affair (898,000) an Hot Seat (624,000). The Footy Show was 195,000 in 2 cities and movie: The Notebook was 150,000 in 3 cities.

Seven News (1.1m /1.06m) led for Seven followed by Home and Away (772,000), House Rules (718,000), Edinburgh Military Tattoo (690,000) and The Chase (639,000 / 394,000).

ABC News (830,000), 7:30 (642,000), The Weekly with Charlie Pickering (618,000), QI (569,000), Ronny Chieng: International Student (486,000), Antiques Roadshow (347,000) and Would I Lie to You? (328,000) comprised ABC’s night.

The Project topped TEN at 553,000 / 418,000. All Star Family Feud was 550,000, TEN Eyewitness News was 473,000, Madam Secretary was 320,000, The Good Wife was just 213,000 -beaten by SBS.

On SBS it was Untold Australia (323,000), Vikings (254,000), The Story of China (234,000) and SBS World News (146,000).

ABC2’s Ben and Holly’s Little Kingdom led multichannels with 265,000.

Sunrise: 331,000
Today: 328,000
ABC News Breakfast: 100,000 / 47,000.

OzTAM Overnights: Wednesday 27 April 2016.

  1. I am happy that house rules didn’t rate very well on premiere. The amount of times Seven advertised the show during the finale of MKR made watching it unbearable. Virtually twice every af break. I wanted to strangle whoever at Seven does their promo scheduling. I hope it doesn’t pick up like other years and it ends up in a late night timeslot like Restaurant Revolution last year.

  2. Why did Channel 7 feel that they had to “enhance” the Tattoo by inserting commentators – they (and the promos across the bottom of the screen) ruined the experience.

  3. Yes, it’s malicious to wish a TV show to fail, but I don’t understand the appeal of this endless renovation TV show cycle. It’s the literal equivalent of watching paint dry. I’m happy to see these shows bomb in the hope we might get a break for a couple of years and be given something else. Same thing for cooking and singing shows, too. Considering what little comedy/drama output there is (thank heavens for the ABC, who actually try), what we do put out is quite good, so I wish there was more of it.

  4. I thought Ronny Chieng was hilarious for the first half, then it lost a bit of steam. The big set piece comedy scene in your sitcom should not involve spewing to get a laugh! Rating: 3.5/5

      1. Not so much Brisbane given it is two Sydney based teams playing each other in the NRL who both aren’t playing well at the moment. I also think the double episode tonight was more so to get the reveal episode to air on Sunday because a normal episode would’ve been smashed by the premiere of both Masterchef and The Voice

          1. Having checked the Foxtel EPG the synopsis for the Sunday episode says it will be the first whole house reveal.

  5. I really enjoyed the Ronny Chieng pilot. For me, there’s familiarity with the story, in terms of parents and university even if it’s exaggerated for humour.

  6. As the finale of MKR went overtime – well overtime – does anyone know if 7 is likely to repeat Tuesday’s episode of Seven Year Switch? As the show started at 9.50pm – and allowing 30 mins after the original scheduled times, we only recorded 39 minutes of content.
7 has TBAs scheduled from 12 Sat and 1.30 Sun arvos, but it’d be nice to know what they’re doing.

    1. Yes, International Student was hilarious.
Loved it ! Ronny has really set the bar high for all the other pilots.
Haven’t laughed that much in ages. I would definitely watch a whole series of this.
Made sure to give it the positive feedback it deserves on the iView site.

    2. Many shows from overseas can’t produce pilots as funny as what International student was. I really enjoyed it! Haven’t given feedback on Iview yet but definitely will. I’d love to see a whole series produced.
