The Mythbusters universe is set to continue with Discovery announcing Search for the Next MythBusters, a reality competition that will aim to find the next hosts.

Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage will not be featured in the new show, but are reportedly supportive of the concept.

Using social media and spectacular stunts, the Science Channel series will feature a cast of “fearless hopefuls who will be judged on their skills as they compete in never-before-seen myth-busting challenges.”

MythBusters ended after 14 years, although new episodes remain on SBS in Australia.

No premiere date for the new project has been announced.

  1. I would think the major reason that- A .the build team were dropped and B. Adam and Jamie have now been dropped is that the cost of their contract renewals after all these years was such that it was no longer viable to continue the series-new and very much cheaper to hire presenters might change this but it ‘s just not the same as the boys doing it.

    1. Going back to just Jamie and Adam restored the show to what it used to be — the two of them competing and clowning around while testing a couple of myths more thoroughly. I enjoyed the recent season much more than previous ones.

Mythbusters had been going for 14 years, it had tested a lot of the myths that could think of, some of them 2 or 3 times. Ratings were dropping off and salary costs rising. They got 2 seasons to go out with, now Discovery will try a new variation that appeals to younger viewers.

  2. See I don’t understand why the show ended, some say it was past its used by date but many still liked it. Just seems weird they would end it only for months later announcing a replacement show.
