Nine links ANZAC Day to The Voice

"Stay strong and you can get here." Nine & MTV adopt questionable use of ANZAC legacy.

Hot on the heels of Seven criticised for interrupting The Last Post with a TV promo, Nine yesterday decided ANZAC Day was fair game to tie in with a promo for The Voice.

Their ad included a servicewoman in full uniform singing “When the War is Over.”

“This is the start of showing other servicemen and women, ‘Stay strong and you can get here,'” it declared.

Last year the RSL criticised Woolworths for a campaign announcing “Fresh in our Memories.” Companies wanting to use the word must get approval from the Veteran Affairs Department.

Nine was contacted for comment.

Meanwhile MTV screened music clips yesterday under the title Lest We Forget of 100 tracks “lest we ever forget these bangers again.”

Yesterday also saw sacked SBS reporter Scott McIntyre again issue a series of damning tweets about the ANZAC legacy.

His views come despite recently acknowledging his views were contentious.

  1. Naughty naughty MTV although did laugh. Not to much wrong with nine as it is a real contestant so don’t think apart from timing . My issue is coming to audition in uniform – that’s the bull dust part of The Voice – if true voice you wouldn’t have to dress up like a miner or whatever backstory the producers want to play up so it is just designed to manipulate

  2. That’s just awful. So very tacky. As if Nine isn’t already in enough poo of it’s own making. I think it shows that they haven’t learnt from the backlash against Woolworths last year and probably indicates that they are likely to change little about how 60 Minutes gathers and reports stories.
