Kevin McCloud returns to ABC next month with a new season of Grand Designs.

It begins in West Sussex with one of the largest homes ever featured on the show – a design inspired by the 1920s Barcelona Pavilion by the architect Mies van der Rohe.

This aired in the UK in September.

The new series of Grand Designs features a diverse range of properties, including one of the biggest builds featured so far; the transformation of a derelict cowshed; a rusty ‘floating’ barn, and a giant fortress of a house on the beach on the Isle of Wight.

There’s an outback-style house on the marshes in East Sussex, for a builder who loves boats, and a sweeping curved straw-bale conversion of an old forge for a family in County Antrim. And there’s a damp, dark cave in the Wyre Forest transformed into a home fit for 21st century living.

Kevin McCloud is on hand to witness the trials and tribulations of those willing to put everything on the line to build homes they hope will transform their lives.

Written and Presented by Kevin McCloud. Series Producer: John Lonsdale. Director: Elliot Kew. Executive Producer: Fiona Caldwell. A Boundless Production (a Fremantle Company).

7:40pm Sunday May 1st on ABC.
