ABC Drama slot is good news for Rake

Ratings: Local drama benefits from a consistent timeslot. MasterChef wins but singes SBS cooking shows.

ABC’s regular Thursday drama slot is working well.

Last night Rake debuted to 653,000 viewers, a slight lift on its third season debut of 645,000. Back then it was thumped on a Sunday by INXS: Never Tear Us Apart. But the regular timeslot is working with ABC audiences. Last night it was only just pipped by Seven’s Queen’s 90th Celebrations.

MasterChef again won its slot, down slightly on last week. But that proved to be bad news for SBS cooking shows, including former graduate Poh Ling Yeow.

Seven won with 28.9% then Nine 27.2%, TEN 20.3%, ABC 18.1% and SBS 5.6%.

Seven News was #1 with 1.06m / 930,000 for Seven then Home and Away (702,000), The Queen’s 90th Birthday Celebrations (675,000) and The Chase (635,000 / 398,000).

Nine News was 994,000 / 929,000 for Nine followed by A Current Affair (819,000), Hot Seat (590,000), Thursday Night NRL (404,000 in 2 cities) and The Footy Show (393,000 in 3 cities).

MasterChef Australia (908,000) won its slot for TEN. The Project was 586,000 / 497,000, Gogglebox was 582,000, TEN Eyewitness News was 526,000 and Law and Order: SVU was 265,000.

ABC News was 805,000, Rake drew 653,000 then The Checkout (650,000), 7:30 (582,000) and Utopia (342,000).

On SBS it was Poh and Co. (159,000), noma Australia (157,000), Made in Italy with Silvia Colloca (146,000), SBS World News (138,000), Gourmet Farmer (136,000). Follow the Money was 94,000.

Big Bang was best on GO! with 285,000.

  1. Would Channel 10 be worried that the Survivor season finale fast tracked from the US can’t even crack the multichannel Top 20, even with the Number 1 multichannel show leading in?

    Channel 9 should get props for their treatment of Survivor over the past few years…..constant fast tracking and the last two finales shown live from the US.
